If so how should I go about doing so?

Absolutely. You get ready for bed, brush teeth, get a sip of water out of a newly picked big boy/girl cup (NO sippy lids), and then it's to bed. You explain this is what big boys and girls do. That or the sippy cup fairy took the cup and left the new big boy/girl cup so they could pass the old cup on to a new baby. Get rid of all sippy cups, then.

Well, my daughter is 4 and still takes a sippy cup to bed every night. She would rather hug that than a teddy or blanket. Whatever works. She rarely even drinks out of it. Just likes to have it there.

The biggest reason they tell you not to allow a bottle or cup in bed is because of the tooth decay caused by sugars sitting on the teeth overnight. If you only put water in the cup then you don't have to worry about that and it becomes a non-issue. If the cup in bed thing bugs you take it away. If it doesn't bother you then make sure it's got water in it and just let them have it.

I think it is time to get rid of nighttime sippy cup.
You just have to tell him/her that you are a big boy/girl and you no longer need to sleep with a sippy cup.

What you can do is. Put some water in the sippy cup and tell your child that you can leave your sippy cup next to you in case you get thirsty in the night. and see how your child reacts to this not sucking on it wh ile falling asleep. I am not sure what your child normally has in his/her sippy but I am here to tell you that you should only give your child water at night so this doesn't harm her/his teeth.

Well Good LUck To you and Your Child!!!

Yes!!!!!!
I am the mother of three young boys and what worked for me is to not offer the sippy cup before bedtime.
Put them to bed without one.Period.
Sippy cups in the bed is not a good idea at all especially according to our dentist. If there is anything but water in the cup that pools in their mouth and will cause decay.
Also there is no physical need for a drink through the night.
You can even comment on his/her last sippy cup for the night to prepare for the night ahead.

Good Luck

Replace the sippy cup with a new ritual such as reading or just sitting and listening to quiet bedtime music together. It is also no good for his teeth and he should not go to bed w/ anything except water if possible then. Maybe try to use a straw during the day too to get hiom away from the sippy a little.

My daughter is also 2. She still goes to bed with her sippy cup of chocolate milk every night & I don't really see anything wrong with that. I keep a bottle of water by my bed at night, so why shouldn't my daughter be able to get a drink when she wants it? I try to avoid juice, though, because that can lead to overly full & leaky diapers! :)

the cup should not be in the bed with the child. let him have a drink when he goes to bed. at first you could try leaving the cup on the night stand, and tell him that if he needs a drink at night that it is there but he is not allowed to sleep with it.
