There is a reference in the Bible for when someone gives you a "word" they say is coming from God that you are supposed to get confirmation from 2 other people, so you know it is definitely a word from God. Does anyone know where that can be found? Thanks so much for your help.

If God were to speak through a person today, it would be in 100% complete agreement with what God has already said in the Bible. God does not contradict Himself. 1 John 4:1 instructs us, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 declares, “Do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good.” So, whether is it a “word from the Lord” or a supposed prophesy, our response should be the same. Compare what is said to what the Word of God says. If it contradicts the Bible, throw it out. If it agrees with the Bible, pray for wisdom and discernment as to how to apply the message (2 Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:5).

This section is speaking in relation to the gift of "tongues" that God gave to the first century Christian congregation. The verses you are speaking of are found at 1 Corinthians 14:26 - 33. The purpose for getting confirmation was actually a translation from the language the individual speaking in tongues was using, to a language that the people could understand. If there was no translator, then the person with the gift was to be quiet as you will see from verse 28. This was a gift that was to be used to draw people to serving God, now that they could hear the good news in their own language. It also served as a sign that God's favor had shifted from the Jewish religion to the Christian congregation. This was now the way of worship acceptable in God's sight. The speaking in tongues that the Bible speaks of eventually ceased (see 1 Corinthians 13:8) Evidently this happened after the last apostle died. The speaking in tongues you see being done today does not follow the guidelines set forth in the scriptures for speaking in tongues. So who is behind these tongues? Please see 2 Corinthians 11:14, 15 also Matthew 24:23-26

Looks like all the other answers don't actually answer your question: that specific quote does not appear. However, reading after the four gospels, into the acts of the apostles and the letters, you will see many occasions where the apostles called meetings to try to figure out what the right thing to do was, even when they had differing opinions. So, even though your original question hasn't been answered by a quote, it seems more addressed by the actual actions of the apostles on an ongoing basis.

If God gives you a "word" from another source, it should line up with what He has already spoken to your spirit. If someone comes up to you and says that God told them to tell you to become a missionary in Africa and He has not spoken that to your heart first....run! God knows where you are, He will place it in your heart, then if you do not act accordingly or He believes you need confirmation, He will probably send some one to confirm it for your sake. But you will know if it is Him or not, if you are honest with yourself.
Be blessed. :)

This is actually a message about speaking in tounges not general messages in your common language. If you think God is leading you with a particular message it is good to ask others opinions and consult experts on the interpritation. Just pray and you will know the truth.

They are right I think you are confusing Matthew 18:15-17 with something else.

15: Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16: But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
17: And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

You provably mean this.
Deu 17:6 "At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; [but] at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death." This about witnessing for one another, not God.
But, if God talks to you, you don't need a witness. You'll know what He want from you.

If you really care about that, you don't have enough faith. Ask God where in the bible it is. He told me. I can't tell you, though. You have to hear it straight from God.
