Since everything has to have a ISO auditable process and documentation. De-plane sounds better then "get off" and is shorter than "disembark".
Plus it has the added benefit of being a noun or a verb since they just made the word up anyway. They can use it however it suits them.

Well, I took my first commercial flight in 1967. We deplaned then, so I guess it's been going on for quite a while. At least in the US.
However on British flights, one still disembarks. At least on bmi and Virgin...
