I really don't have a problem with the atheists on here. I have always believed in deities and probably will always believe in them. I respect the views that atheists have even though I don't share them. I like the diversity of this board--having all different views on here is educational. My faith is not threatened by differing views. Why would it be? I would much rather hear how others believe from them rather than having my religion try to explain something that it may know nothing substantial about.
The world does not only have one religious view and I feel it would be wrong to shield (censor) differing views from those who seek.

I can see how you would be fed up with some of the comments on here, but I don't think that having another category would solve the problem. There are obnoxious people on all the categories and you can't keep atheists out of the religion section. Besides, why would you want to. Maybe with an open mind they will see some truth and come to know God. Pray for them.
God bless.

Segregation, huh?
"How tempting it is to raise high walls and keep out change. Rot here in our own self-satisfied comfort. Enclosures of any kind are fertile breeding ground for hatred of outsiders." - Frank Herbert
By the way, you shouldn't stereotype people. It's no more appropriate for you to say all atheists are pessimistic than it is for me to say Christians are vengeful and intolerant. Personally (as an atheist), I aim to keep a rational balance between optimism and realism. The only time I feel pessimistic is when I see an overwhelming number of "so-called Christians" spewing hatred of anyone who has a different opinion.
As for "polluting the minds of people who are new to religion and could be easily swayed," people of any age and familiarity with religion can be "easily swayed." And that's not a bad thing, regardless of whether they are swayed to become atheist, agnostic, casual Christian/Jew/Muslim/Buddhist/Hindu/etc., or devout Christian/Jew/Muslim/Buddhist/Hindu/etc. People have the right to think for themselves and make their own decisions given the information presented to them. I can't speak for all atheists who post on this site, but I personally try to make my posts as factual as possible, referencing my sources and giving detailed (verbose) explanations. I also try to avoid hateful or degrading remarks.
I find it funny that so many of the non-Catholic Christians I've known (especially from my hometown in the Bible belt) hate Catholicism because (among many things) it leaves the interpretation of the Bible to the clergy and not the worshipper. Yet these same non-Catholic Christians seem to desire exclusive rights in interpreting the world around us so that they can dictate to the masses how to think and direct one's spirituality.
Lastly, if you want to understand why atheists get so upset, imagine a situation where a very large group of Muslims start posting to this site using the same tone that the mostly benevolent (but sometimes condescending) Christians use. Imagine them using peaceful quotes from the Qur'an (Koran) to convert the Christians. Don't you think that if such a flood of Islamic missionaries started pouring in, the Christians would get defensive and (occasionally) hostile? What if the resulting defensive Christian comments resulted in the missionary Muslims quoting the more violent portions of the Qur'an, the same way some Christians quote passages from the Bible (Old Testament) where God condemns or punishes people for various reasons? I'm more than confident that if such a scenario occurred, then many Christians might understand why so many atheists get frustrated and angry on forums like this. That fictitious scenario is exactly what happens to atheists, every day.
(And please don't think to yourself--or post--thoughts about Islam being inherently militant and hostile, incapable of being compassionate and spreading their religion peacefully. Such racism isn't very becoming of a true Christian. And even if you want to point to history, the I could do the same to demonstrate the overwhelming hostility in Christian conversion. So please don't point fingers...)

Unfortunately, it's the role of atheists to prevent people who are easily swayed from falling under the influence of theists with their simplistic "believe" routine. You're right, it's simple. Believe! But just how simple do you really need to be to fall for that?
Atheists are pessimistic, except about the ability of a theist to truly use their own minds to analyse and evaluate tne contradictory statements that both they and their sacred words of gods make.
Every religion makes the same claims- just believe and we'll offer you ............ (fill in whatever the theist values most- everlasting life, peace, supremacy over other faiths and religions, safety in war, anything really to get them to commit). Given the state of the majority of the world's countries which are deeply religious and the fact they they are often fighting amongst themselves, I have said it was the theists who need to be pessimistic. There battle for god usually means they are battling someone else who is battling for god.
Enjoy your harmless prayers and chants, but don't go jumping off too many cliffs expecting your god to save you. If you want me to join you, I'll happily jump of with you but I'll trust in a parachute and meet you at the bottom- you'll be there way before me.

Your question has just proven that xianity is hypocritical and discriminatory. You should be hanging your head in shame. You are a total and utter disgrace to your religion. There are xians come on here and are well mannered and well educated in religions of all kinds and are good examples of their belief system.
You on the other hand are judgmental and discriminatory. I don't think you'll get to heaven with that attitude. Sort it out before you post any more discriminatory remarks like this again. You might even find you'll get more respect.
By the way I am NOT an atheist.

A section for Freethinkers might be fun but you know the second we put it up it will be full of Bible Bangers in there trying to convert us. I used to hang out on Beliefnet and Christians were all over the Atheism board.
And I wouldn't want to put up a Christian filter. I'm posting from the USA where freedom is messy.
So we will have to learn to put up with each other. And if almighty god can't fight back against the aguments of a little pisher from Omaha, what kind of a god is that?
Look, it's hard. Think.

Pointing out the falsehood of core religious beliefs (existence of god, life after death, etc.) is neither "polluting" nor "pessimistic". It's simple honesty, and if that honesty can sway people who might otherwise become religious, so much the better.
You really need to change your attitude. Arrogance and ignorance are a bad combination, reflecting poorly on your faith.

Athiesm is a religion too, like it or not. Athiests take a leap of faith in saying there is no god, theiests take a leap of faith in saying there is a god, and agnostics like me take a leap of faith saying there's no need to take a leap of faith (which is a paradox, but that's part of what makes it work, I'll explain somewhere else if it's really that confusing).
Besides, athiests would just come here to "debate." I use the word debate loosely, because generally athiests v. theists breaks down into "I Don't agree with your premise, but I still present my arguement using my premise, and we're not even using the same arguement!"

What I think you are talking about is the difference between people who are asking real questions, and those who are just trying to stir things up. It's not too hard to spot the latter group and skip over them. But recognize that there are Christians who pretend to pose a question only to preach in answering it themselves. I find that just as annoying and can't imagine that it influences anyone in any significant way.
Sincere questions and thoughtful answers (from both sides of the fence), please.
