I'm going to my favorite deli today, and I want to get the sandwich that'll be healthier for me-- because I'm trying to lose weight. I'm going to make this my one "big" meal of the day.

Sandwich #1= A LOT of roast beef on a hard roll with two slices of American cheese.

Sandwich #2= Hot honey ham on grilled rye bread, with melted American cheese and honey mustard dressing.

I would assume that Sandwich #2 would be worse, but isn't rye bread healthy? Doesn't honey ham contain less fat and stuff than roast beef does? Besides, don't hard rolls have a lot of calories in them?

If you were trying to lose weight, which sandwich would you get? And please don't say "neither", but if there are any modifications that you can make to make the sandwich healthier, I'd be interested in hearing them.
Thanks!

Yeah, Sandwich #2 is better-- at least taste-wise, I've got to admit

Sandrwich 1 will have less calories, and is problalbly healthier for you in the long run.

Ham does have less fat and fewer calories than roast beef. Also there are 2 slices of cheese on the first, and i'm assuming one slice of cheese on the second. The less cheese the better. Also, would there be any mayo or other condiments on the first sandwich? As that would add to calories and fat. I would say have the ham sandwich with one slice of cheese and no honey mustard unless they have low fat.

That hard roll is going to be way up there in calories. Ask if they have whole wheat bread. 1 slice of American cheese is about 100 calories and 2 TBS of that dressing on the sandwich is about 100 as well.

You are making me hungry. I think the first would be more healthy because the second one has dressing on it. But you are correct that the rye bread is more healthy than the roll. I only eat whole grain breads, never white. Cheese also has a high fat content. Why don't you get a turkey sandwich on rye bread with mustard on it. Also, roast beef on rye with salt and pepper would be healthy.

It's hard to tell. The first one has lots of good protein, but if you got it on whole wheat, it would be better. Is the honey mustard dressing on #2 mayo-based? If so, then don't go for it. If it is just mustard then it has 0 calories and #2 will probably have fewer calories.

I have read in my husbands "men's health" magazine's that Lean Roast Beef is a good deli sandwhich to get...Maybe opt for the low-fat american cheese rather than regular cheese and sub the roll for wheat bread..

Look man, less carbs doesnt mean more healthy. Carbs are good for you. They provide energy. Only when you eat too many carbs and then don't use them for energy your body stores it in the form of fat. Which isn't necessarily unhealthy. You need fat to survive. If you ever find yourself drifting in the middle of the ocean with no food the fat guy is most likely to survive. Unless you eat him. But uhh.. if u still want less carbs go for sandwich 1. If you want healthy, both of them are good. But sandwich 2 sounds like it'll taste better.

Number one is healthier and would be even more so without the cheese. But you need something else with it-maybe tomato? Add some veggies in there?
