I have a european ford fusion which is a hatch, it has 4 speakers all in the doors, i just can't find out what size they are. i've heard they're 6" X 8" or 5" X 7" which apparently is the same thing. i have a pioneer head unit DEH-6800MP which is good. if i use 4 jbl speakers, provided they're 6" X 8" would i get good sound quality? i dont like thumping music, but balanced bass and treble. in desperate need of help on this one.

5"x7" and "6X8" speakers are NOT the same size. I used to have a Ford Expedition which used 6" X 8" speakers and I replaced the stock speakers to Pioneers.

What it is... is that the 6X8 and 5x7 represent the size in inches of the speaker --- the speaker emplacement has been designed so that with a small plastic adapter, either size speaker can be used.

The best way to be certain what speaker you need is to remove one of the speakers from the front door and one from the back door and take it to the shop you plan to buy the new speakers from. This way, you will be 100% CERTAIN you get the match.

Your Pioneer DEH-6800MP is rated as 4 Speakers X 50 Watts RMS.
It provides each speaker 50 Watts of power.
If you want good treble and bass, I suggest you purchase either JBL, INIFINITY, or PIONEER.

Be certain however that whatever speaker you purchase is able to handle 50 Watts RMS and also check the construction of the speaker's tweeter to be certain it is made of either aluminum (or a thin metal) rather than paper or polypropelene.
Speakers with true suwoofers and metal tweeters will give you the highest sound quality NO MATTER WHAT VOLUME YOU PERFER TO LISTEN AT.

I am very impressed BTW with INIFNITY model speakers due to their construction and sound quality.

Other people on yahoo Answers have there own sound preferences and their own experience but, after having done plenty of installs on FORD VEHICLES, such as FOCUSes, Mustangs and Explorers in Best Buy's car audiot department - I'd have to say that my recommendation is going to be the most fair and balanced. Best Buy does a very good job of training and retraining its installation technicians. I was head technician for about a year and a half befor I moved into mortgages.

Sound quality is an individual thing the type of music you listen to is the key. The total range of human hearing is only twelve octives on the piano scale. To get the delicate highs of bells and cymbals tweeters are needed as they have to move very fast and don't use much power. Lows from the double basso and the bass drum need large slow moving speaker and lots of wattage and damping to control speaker cone movement. You'ld think human voice would be easy but it is not vibratto and size of the wind pipe is different in each singer. Ever wonder why a small simple instrument as a flute can fill a building? "Clarity" the flute cuts right thru the noise. Cars do not have the best ambiance reflective surfaces, wind, drive line and engine noise are trying to overwhelm your DEH-6800MP

Not the same thing. Refers to size of the speaker itself. Remove the grill from one, and measure it. That's the safest way to go, before buying the wrong size.
