Why?
- Because he's not THAT stupid
- Because we can't fight YET another war at the same time we're in Iraq and Afghanistan without a draft and bankrupting this country.
- Because North Korea has the LARGEST military in the world; over 5.7 million (active & reserves)
- 1,082 Active
- 4,700 Reserve
- 3,500 Tanks
- Because the people of this nation won't stand for him to further destablize the world and bring us to the edge of a nuclear holocaust. Plus, we'd most likely be directly attacked ourselves....

The North Korean military is estimated at being near one million soldiers. That's big.
Bush is not attacking North Korea because he is trying to get the other countries in the region to deal with Kim Jong Ill.
And it's showing signs of working. Japan is considering ammending its constitution so it can arm itself against the Korean threats. China is the disappointing country in my mind. But it has long been suspected that China and North Korea are in bed together so not much can be expected from them.

First of all we are currently tied up in Iraq, secondly North Korea has China as somewhat of an ally. It is difficult to determine China's position on North Korea as it stands now given their frustration with the DPRK's missile tests.

It's the fact that North Korea has China as an ally. So if we attack North Korea, China attacks us. That is the problem.
(I think you can estimate the Chinese military force.)

im sure hed like to, he cant just invade bcos any escalation on his part would directly affect neighbour south korea - which has links with other countries, particularly china and is much more of an ally than north korea ever will be
since north korea tested nuclear, south korea has stepped up their testing and capabilities despite threats, america needs china (which would kick both their ***) to intervene in negotiation as its strogest in the region
but china and america are not on good terms, difficulties with trade agreements etc
whereas most other countries simply 'hold' nuclear weapons - especially since chernobyl and seeing affects, north korea leader is almost certainly mad enough to use 'nuclear' despite the effects it would have on the remainder of the world after he used it

Almost the entire country of NK is a military force. The welcome we got in Iraq from some people would be nothing like the hatred we'd get from the brainwashed millions in NK. There is no good military solution there. We can not simply move in and take out there government and hope the people rise up to take care of themselves - its not going to happen in NK.
The only military answer (and good one) is to tactically bomb the hell out of his military installations that involve missiles. I don't mean nuke them; but 80 to 120 cruise missiles with conventional war heads should get the message across. It worked with Khadaffi (sp)

There was never an actual peace treaty signed after the Korean war. The DMZ is still there because of that. And Kim Jong il is kinda wierd(he thinks he can beat tiger woods at golf on any course)

Unfortunately for Bush North Korea will fight back very quickly and even in his madness he is smart enough to know yes the missiles will be in South Korea very quickly and yes they would be nukes.
