First off it is not done because the temple does not stand. Second it was never the only means of atonement. There are numerous others ways to atone and Sacrifice was the least preferred ways.
To atone all you need do is repent. Simple as that. It is detailed all over the Hebrew Scriptures.
As noted by the answers above Christianity has an issue with that fact as it basically means Jesus died in vain.

The only way Jews are allowed to sacrifice is for a priest to sacrifice the animal in The Temple. There is only allowed to be one temple and that temple has to be in what is now Isreal. The temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. and has not been rebuilt since. Instead there is the Dome of the Rock, a mosque, built on the Temple grounds. Until the temple is rebuilt, the Jews will not be able to give sacrifice.

Jews have not made any sacrifices since the destruction of the 2nd Temple in the year 70 C.E. Sacrifices had to be made exactly as set forth in Leviticus. They had to be made by Levites in the Temple. Sacrifices were of oil, grains, little critters, etc. The only part of the sacrifice meant for God was the aroma; the sacrifice itself was eaten by the Levites and their families. Since the Levites were not given any land, they were supported by the community. Perhaps it was the first socialist society...
After the destruction of the Temple, the rabbis agreed to replace all sacrifices with prayer.
The Israelites learned early on that human sacrifice was NEVER acceptable to God. He allowed sacrifices similar to those of the Egyptians and other neighbors, but human sacrifice was forbidden to His chosen people.
Shalom

No. in the initiating, cats and dogs are not kosher. merely kosher animals were sacrificed because the sacrifice develop into actually a fashion of slaughtering animals to eat. existence is considered holy and the taking of the existence of an animal develop into no longer to be done gently. The dominant branches of judaism have not done sacrifices because the destruction of the second one temple. The exception to it is a holiday said as kapparot, which will contain the sacrifice of a rooster, even if some jews merely burn fake money rather and maximum secular jews have under no circumstances heard of this vacation and can provide you somewhat basic seems once you tell them about it. some smaller communities of jews, possibly some karaite and Ethiopian jews ought to nonetheless sacrifice a lamb now and again, quite in factors of the international the position lambs are regularly slaughtered (and eaten) in social gathering or to honor a centred visitor.

The earliest books of the Old Testament speak of animal sacrifice ... but later Old Testament books tell us that God is pleased with other things (virtue, kindness, etc.) besides sacrifices.
This is still in the Old Testament, mind you, which is used by Jews as well as Christians.

Jewish sacrifices were made i the Temple. Since it was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD, they had no other way to make atonement once they were scattered abroad. You'd have to have a Jewish response to find out what they did all these years for atonement since they no longer had the luxury of a high priest to do it for them and etc...

I dont know. I dont believe in any kind of animal or human sacrifice for any religion. It's perverse, it's cruel, it's primitive. But harvest celebrations/ offerings are good and a way of saying thank you to the earth and to life.

I've been told because there is no temple in Jerusalem. The one and true temple would be located there. That's where the sacrifices would take place.
