Put between 1.5 to 2 cups per gallon. My mother-in-law makes it that way and it is the best. Boil about 6 family-size Lipton teabags in water, let steep about 15 minutes, add the tea, sugar and water in a pitcher and serve over ice. Wonderful!!!!

Drinking tea is a good habit. A cup of tea with a little sugar a day is said to be very good to your health and your fitness (read in a Vietnamese magazine).
However, too much sugar wil kill you ;). So, no matter how I like it I try to avoid having too much of it. May be 1 cube or 2 teaspoons. It would not spoil the taste of the tea, either. Sometimes I also drink tea without sugar and it taste good in a different way.
Enjoy your tea everyday!

Personally, I am not a huge fan of sweet tea. However, a good rule of thumb to make southern sweet tea is to add one cup of sugar to the hot tea brew for each 2 qts.

I make my tea in a pitcher that holds 1 1/4 quarts. I bring about a half of a large sauce pan to a boil with five tea bags. Turn it off once it starts to boil, let steep for a few minutes ( I like my tea to taste strong enough to taste like tea ). Pour into the pitcher add One and one fourth cup of sugar. Stir very well, then add cold water and keep stirring. Scoop off the foam. Everyone tells me I make really good tea.

I put no sugar in my tea, for that matter I don't add anything. Just continue experimenting until you find the right level, or try a different sweetener (sugarshots, honey, equal, splenda, etc)
