You'll have to get a prepaid phone card. They're not too expensive and you call an 800 number to connect.
To locate an inmate within the California Department of Corrections, please call (916) 445-6713, which is available 24 hours a day. You must have either the inmate's CDC number, or the inmate's full name and date of birth to receive information. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will provide an inmate's location, mailing addresses and relevant phone numbers. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will not provide any future release date information. Please note that for new or transferring inmates it can take up to seven business days to update location information. or try www.vinelink.com but I find them next to useless... I tested the system by entering the information I know to be current for four inmates in various facilities, only one hit and that person is still awaiting trial...I'm not impressed.

You may check online with the state Department of Corrections official website. Some of these DOC sites have inmate look up features and verify active or inactive status, location of housing, list of charges incarcerated for, type of sentencing, and personal information as birthdate, race, eye and hair color. Some even display a picture of the inmate if actively serving a sentence.

Why not send a letter to the state dept. of corrections and ask them if they can assist you in locating you sister. I doubt that any prisoner data is online or available to the public. Good luck. Hope you find her....if she's behind bars she could probably use a friend.

Go to your state home page (example Ohio state homepage") The state homepage will come up. Somewhere on the page there is a listing for DOC. Click on their and as long as you know their name or DOC number you can find them, what facility they are at, what their crime is, how many counts they were charged with, how long they got, and how long is left on the sentence.
