Sometimes my fingers swell up. Now this is NOT like normal edema; it will usually only be one or two sections (between each finger joint) at a time, and the swollen portions become red and VERY itchy and hot to the touch. My skin gets so tight it feels like it's going to burst. After a while, it goes away. I don't have any circulatory problems, and I don't eat much salt, so I don't think it's anything like that. It happens in all types of weather, and it doesn't matter how long or how short of a time I've been sitting or walking around. It's kind of scary! My doctor referred me to a dermatologist, but my appointment is months away. Anybody ever heard of anything like this?

Whoops! Also forgot another important detail: the section that is swollen also goes all numb and tingly.

there are many medical things that can cause a certain part of your body to swell up. you may want to go to the doctor asap. does anyone in your family have lupus? or does your fingers feel really cold? visit WWW.WEBmd.COM and you can check all of the symptons.
i hope this helps.

I had something similar in my hands and legs , each on different occasions. I found out I was allergic to a group type of anti biotics which caused tendonitis. I couldn't even carry or lift anything as it hurt so much. It is terrible when you get it. Doctors told me it would take months to get out of the system. You need to check any medications that have such side effects too and stop them straight away. My hands are okay now.

My hands do this, but only when I wear my jewelry. They get real red in between the fingers and swell. Then about a day later, they blister and start to itch. Then they peel. This is after I wear my jewelry for any amount of time. Could it be an allergy?

I'm not sure, but I would try to find a different doctor so you can get an appointment sooner. It sounds mildly serious, but I doubt it's life threatening.

You may have been exposed to too much chrome in your food or perhaps in any industrial work gloves you may be using. It could be environmental. Go to an emergency room if need be.

Rheumatoid Arthritis for sure...I have the same problem. Go to your doctor and have him refer you to a Rheumatologuist...do NOT let your GP try to help you with this disease.
