I get responses from guys on an online dating service that have been on there for 2 or 3 years. I know this because the age listed in their profile is different than in their intro. I think the service automatically updates the age according to the birthdate. Alot of these guys are 40 something and never married. I have been on a service for several months myself but am serious about finding someone but haven't found the right one yet and I know this could be the case with these guys too. I can't help but be a little suspicious of a never married 48 year old man who seems to have it all together, good job, good shape, etc and has been on the service for 3 years. I wonder if the photos are even current.

You should know that these sites look very different from the point of view of the guy. Women who post profiles get regular emails from lots of guys - even unattractive women I've known sometimes get ten inquiries a day. Men, on the other hand, get essentially no responses, and very few responses to their inquiries either.
That means that a guy who has had an ad on for 3 years may have gotten maybe 3 dates in that time, while a woman would probably have had the opportunity for more dates than she could handle.
That being said, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that the photos are not remotely current. If I were you, I'd insist on some proof of a current photo.
Another alternative is to move to greatboyfriends.com, where someone is vouching for the sincerity of the person you're contacting. I'm sure there are other sites like that as well - I think it almost certain improves the honesty dramatically.

They are lieing get off of the service and date in the club it's easier to find out if they are lieing.
