Due to the high prices, some of the supply now comes from force-fed animals. The images shown of the solid poops consisting of nothing by coffee beans are an example of this. Traditionally natives fished through the monkey poop for individual beans. The monkey poop does fall to the ground in single solid bean rich movements.

FWIW, thecoffeefaq.com notes that a study "found that the beans undergo physical and chemical changes as a result of digestion. They become harder and more brittle, with an extremely finely perforated outer surface, and had a lower protein content, theoretically resulting in a less-bitter cup. Blind taste tests from professional cuppers, however, have not borne out the theory."

There is a another coffee that is like that but it is from a cat like creature. It is called Kopi Luwak coffee.

http://www.ravensbrew.com/NewFiles/kopiluwak.html

The Luwak (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) denizen of the coffee (kopi) plantations of Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi, eats only the ripest coffee cherries.
Unable to digest the coffee beans, the Luwak graciously deposits them on the jungle floor where they are eagerly collected by the locals.
The stomach acids and enzymatic action involved in this unique fermentation process produces the beans for the world’s rarest coffee beverage."

I'm glad to say I was able to turn down the free samples of this coffee at a gallery I went to. First I though it was a joke and started looking for the hidden cameras.

Now if they are making it out of monkey poop I'm sure there will be another group of people that insist this stuff is worth the $60 a pound. *edit What the #$^*@ it goes for $75 for a 1/4 pound? Those people are nuts.
Nice timing eyebum. ; )

It's actually a Palm Civet (similar to a mongoose) that does the digesting. The coffee is called Kopi Luwak.

yes, they had a story on it on our local news, only wasn't called 'monkey butt" but they explained it was the most expensive coffee because it was eaten then expelled (EWWWWWWWWW yuck) and that something in the digestive system was what enhanced the flavor--i will never find out!
