try Ezekiel Bread (organic food section - 80 cal/3 g. fiber per slice). It is very grainy, but you might get used to it. To make it more flavorful toast it.
Some filling suggestions, - hummus with sliced veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers and spinach
-tuna in water made with mustard and a little mayo
-veggie deli meats - they are very lowfat and high protein - with veggies
-low sodium turkey with low fat swiss (or other lowfat cheese)
- 1 or two slice LF cheese with tomato - melted if you are making it fresh
one response above mentioned that bread is bad on a diet - it's really more about calories and the quality of the breads you eat - stick to whole grains and don't buy bread with "high fructose corn syrup" or "corn syrup" in the ingredients (all the mainstream brands will have it - stick to the organic section for bread)
And don't exceed more than 2 slices of bread a day and you should be good.

Whole wheat and whole grain foods are good for you whether or not you're on a diet. The Harvard School of Public Health says that carbs provide the fuel that we need for all sorts of physical activity and that whole wheat and whole grain foods also help to protect us against a range of chronic diseases.
As for finding ways to make it taste nicer, maybe you could start with a bread that you like by itself; here are a few ideas. If you bake, you may want to try the King Arthur Flour brand's 100% White Whole Wheat Flour as a substitute. If you don't bake, try Sarah Lee brand whole grain white bread, which should be available wherever you buy other Sarah Lee products, commercial breads and baked goods.
Good luck!

Have you tried different brands? Natural ovens brand is excellent. They have a few versions of whole graina and wheat breads.
Whole grains and wheat are good because they aren't easily digested in the tummy....that way, they also pull excess fats and "yuckies" from your system, and then move right out of your body.....
I would suggest toasting the bread and trying some peanut butter or a brand called earth balance if you like butter. they also make good toasted sandwiches...for instance, wheat bread tastes great toasted with tuna or chicken salad....you can make lowfat versions of these yourself.

Wholewheat and whole grain breads can be a bit of an acquired taste. I've found I like it with honey, or try apple sauce.

Bread is never good on a diet to lose weight.
Check out this site - My husband has lost 35 lbs in 3 months... and he's still going. It seems to work well for him.

There is only 2 more carbs in wheat over white ... 5 to 3 ... I don't think it'll make much of a difference

Whole wheat bread, or whole wheat/wholegrain anything are very healthy. White bread is very processed.
Try peanut butter or a soy-based margarine.

You'll get used to it! I was not crazy about it at first either but I just pair it up with items I like.
