I don't know why, but every South African I've seen on tv has the really cool British accent.

Great Britain colonized South Africa hundreds of years ago and pushed their lifestyle and way of speaking onto the South Africans. Today, most South africans are white with a british accent.

You're all deaf - a South African (esp. Boer) accent is NOTHING like a British accent.

I was born & raised in a little village in England & came to the USA at age 30yo. Now, 13 years later, I do have the common problem sometimes being unable to tell the difference between some Australin & British accents. But South African accents are TOTALLY different.

P.S. There isn't 1 British accent really - there are hundreds.

South Africans have an accent all of their own, I am from the dead centre of England and I have never heard a British person with the same accent as a South African (its a shame really I think the accent is great!)

They DON'T!!

I'm English, and I used to work with a woman from South Africa - a white woman I might add - and her accent was TOTALLY different from any British accent!! I've heard them loads of times on TV too, so I know it wasn't just HER!

The only South African with a British accent will the one who hasn't been in South Africa long, and who spent most of their life in Britain!!

Weren't colonies of England in South Africa? So, when they learned english it would have been from them. My question, why does Madonna have a british accent?

Because they were colonized by the British stay forever and they have white people there thinking they are African.
