Las Vegas Nevada
Reno Nevada
Plano Texas
Austin Texas
Tallahassee Florida
Nevada, Texas and Florida are the only 3 states that don't take out state income taxes. The price of real estate in Florida and the tourist make it the least of the three.

big cities or any city?
some of the suburban cities are better than the large over-populated ones. it depends on your taste. but if you look at it economically, cities like New York, are expensive to live in, but have mostly well paying jobs available, so they even out, where as if you live on long island, the cost of living is moderate, with high property taxes and top of the list house prices, and the jobs pay all over the spectrum, so, its more so what are you going to do, than where are you going to live.

For medium sized cities I'd say:
Eugene, OR
Boise, ID
Burlington, VT
New York and LA are the largest cities in the United States if you want a big city.
I'm from Milwaukee and it's awesome.
Boston has good education but it's expensive.
