I see that Windows is eventually going to be 64bit and I was wondering if I could continue to use the software I currently use now, or if I'll have to buy a bunch of new software all at once. My processor will be able to run in 32 and 64 bit, it's an AMD Athon X2 3800 Windsor core.

yeah i have found that most of my software works on my x64 xp boot. i dual boot xp and x64 xp, and most of the programs work on both, although some don't. can't remember which though(mostly the ones i never use). drivers are kind of a pain to find right now though. i have all my drivers except one for the printer.

It's the same as running 16-bit application on a 32-bit OS! Of course it won't be like running native 64-bit application but it will work... You may experience loss in performance with some of them (same as trying to run a DOS app on XP)...
Windows isn't giving up the 32-bit arhitecture (since Vista will be released both on 32-bit and on 64). Many companies didn't release yet 64-bit native applications, so the major impact of moving from 32 to 64 won't be soon...

Windows is already 64 bit with XP 64 bit. Yes your old 32 bit software will run on a 64 bit system.

As far as I know, Vista will be reverse-compatible with 32-bit software.
