The chicken or the egg is a reference to the causality dilemma which arises from the expression "which came first, the chicken or the egg?". When used in reference to difficult problems, a chicken and egg problem is similar to a Catch 22 situation where something cannot happen until a second thing does, and the second thing cannot happen until the first does. For example, a person might have trouble finding a job without work experience, but to get work experience he/she must get a job.

Do you really wanna know? If so read on.........
Actually, this question is more anthropological than evolutionary, since the chicken (Gallus domesticus) didn't exist until its domestication around 2000 BC in Indochina. The first chicken came from the first chicken egg, which was laid by a red junglefowl (Gallus gallus). Whether you argue creation or evolution, the fact that humanity predates and is responsible for the speciation of chickens from red junglefowl should lay the "chicken or the egg" question to rest. From an evolutionary perspective, this answer holds for all species: the first member(s) of any species were the offspring of another very similar species, i.e. evolution argues that the egg always comes first. From a creationist perspective, this answer is anomalous, since all species that predate humanity originated as adults around 4004 BCE, i.e. creationism argues that the red junglefowl came before the red junglefowl egg.

If you are a creationist, then the answer is the chicken, which God created.
If you are an evolutionist, then the answer is the egg. What laid the egg? Something very close to a chicken, but not quite a chicken. DNA mutation and evolution caused what came out of the egg to be what we now call a chicken.

This question was already asked, by Jordi 3 days ago and this was my answer to him:
easy, the EGG, reptiles were laying egg, long before the chicken ever evolved. and chickens evolved from reptiles, their scales evolved into feathers, and eventually you have birds with the ability of flight.
You did not mention if it was a chicken egg, you just said egg.

If you believe in evolution the egg came first but it was laid by a reptile and evolved into todays chicken. If you dont then it was the chicken.

The chicken. When God created the earth, he also created animals including, chickens, reptiles, and dinosaurs. The chicken was here first to lay the eggs we eat today.
