I don't listen to it, because it wont help me get to Heaven and isn't that our ultimate goal? Ok some people say oh this music talks about Friendship or this one is about love and it's true not all secular music is bad but will it help me get to Heaven? People have even recorded music with Jesus in it and on that same CD are curses, artist know we (Christians) like to buy a lot of music and that means a lot of money, just I want you to be careful with what you hear, oh and how is it that you don't let the lyrics get to you? And if you just like the beat can't you just hear Christian music with a nice beat?

I don't see why they would. Why would an atheist heathen listen to gospel music if they have no interest in god and why would a Christian listen to secular music if they have no interest in being worldly.

That's my answer using Christian logic of course.

Music is a Gift from God it soothes the Spirit but man has a way of making it bad my self i prefer Christian Rock like PETRA, DC TALK. NEWS BOY, THIRD DAY, CASTING CROWNS
and KING JAMES, WHITE CROSS.
There is a lot of Great Christian Music out there that you shouldn't need any other music

I listen to mostly secular music. A lot of the Christian music out there today rubs me the wrong way because it tries to hard to be "cool" and like the world. Some of it is very nice and I listen to a lot of it, but some of it is no different than what you might here on MTV. I listen to country, classical, folk, classic rock, and even new age music. In all honesty, a lot of the new age music out there makes me feel closer to God than a lot of the mainstream Christian music does. If it can direct your heart and thoughts toward Jesus Christ, how can it be wrong (just stay away from the rap and heavy metal - keep it pure)?

At work, my boss plays country music on the radio, but other than that, no. I normally don't listen to anything in the car, and at home I have some music I listen to occasionally, but it's mostly either church hymns, or Kenny G. I would say I listen to music about 3 or 4 tiimes a year for about 2 or 3 hours at a time. So much of popular music now days drives the Spirit away that it's hard to find something without an agenda.

I agree with you, I'm a Christian and I stopped listening to secular music. I feel that it affects my relationship with god. A lot of secular music could have bad messages in it. I enjoy Christian music though because it's in any genre like secular music. Christian music doesn't have limited genres. My favorite band right now is Skillet they're a Christian rock band.

This is an interesting question, and if you don't mind an opposite opinion, I am not a Christian, but I like Christian music.

I listen to just about all kinds of music (excepting gangster rap and acid rock, which I feel are wholly unnecessary). As I have mentioned in some of my other answers, I do not formally align myself with any specific religion, but I do believe in a Higher Power and the basic, shared concepts of love, peace, respect, and compassion.

I like the messages in Christian music as well as many of the songs I used to sing, growing up in the Catholic Church. I was even in the church choir for 10+ years. I believe that music is essential to life and the kind of life we live is influenced by the kind of music to which we listen.

There is no better way to send a message to the world than through music.

Of course I listen to secular music. I love classical music and traditional music and even some oldies like the Beach Boys. What I listen to has no bearing on whether or not I go to heaven when I die. After all, "Not of works lest any man should boast." (Eph 2:9)

I love listening to Christian music, but I do listen to secular music as well (mostly country and oldies with some classical thrown in). I don't agree though that it will 'help' me get to Heaven. I mean it can't hurt, but there is only one way to get into Heaven and that is by accepting Christ as your savior. I don't like music that is overtly sexual or profane, but I don't think that secular music in general will hinder my salvation :)

Any music that does not discuss worship of God or that's related to religion is secular (including Gospel, with it's "modern" sound, lol IMHO), which means from the world.

Yes, from time to time I do listen to secular music. I happen to be a fan of the musician Prince.
However, I do not listen to music that is morally degrading, including hip hop (i don't like it) and much of rock and it's rebellious beats. I don't like music that is overly sexual, or violent, or just purely rebellious. (Yeah, I even choose to not listen to some of Prince's early sexy music, lol)
One must be discerning, with any form of entertainment.
Of course, one's spiritual maturity will cause them to feel the need to control their entertainment habits.
Each to his own, I suppose, I just don't want to lose my focus on spiritual things and the doing of God's will, which is why I don't listen to music, or watch TV, etc. too much.

Do you know how many Christians there are in the US
for example? If they didn't listen to secular music,
there wouldn't be hardly any.

Yes at times (probably 75 percent christian music 15 percent classical music and Jazz and 10 percent "regular" christian music (top 40 stuff although now it is more "oldies" because what is considered top 40 now isn't really that musically challenging to me)
