There are three ways of seeing life. In one people stick fast. In another they go to excess. In the third they see correctly.

In the first way, people take pleasure in all the things of life--in possessions and happenings, in families and continuation. When a teaching is proclaimed that advises nonattachment and going beyond the dictates of the self, their heart does not leap up and they are not drawn to it. In the second way, people are afflicted by hatred of life. Just as attached to life, they nonetheless revile it and make a bad thing of it to excess.

In the third way, people see life as it is--forever being and ceasing to be. They accept it willingly but are not attached and do not despair. It is they who begin to know the unconditioned.

Kind of like an observer in the third stage. You would be correct.

Yes, that is important... "accept it willingly and not to despair".

However, I have to deeply disagree with all teachings that advise me nonattachment, or getting rid of the attachments in my life. I don't like when philosophy or religion is going against the basic rules of nature, continuity and humankind.
Getting rid of attachments is danger. We are social beings and that is where we have to LIVE, day by day. If our meditation changes NOTHING for the bettering of this world, than damm that mediation, you know!
I don't like to follow SELFISH creeds.
(maybe I got your question wrong, I don't know....?)

Well I have to agree that the 3rd way is certainly persuading and opens eyes of those who didn't think in that vein. If only all could believe and command themselves to foregoing such a belief, how free one could be and not despair over trivial matters. It certainly would be much better than constant depression and a way of finding happiness for oneself and go about living in a way that would find inner peace and love always........
