There are three things you should do to maintain a healthy mouth and clean breath.
1. Brush after meals (if you can)- but definitely twice a day.
2. Floss at the end of the day. This removes excess food particles caught in the recesses of your mouth (between teeth, etc). Foor caught in the mouth is food for bacteria, which cause bad breath.
3. Salivate. Saliva contains water, salts and digestive enzymes which fight bacterial growth.
Avoid sugary gums and foods- sugar supports bacterial growth. Sugar free gum is good because it promotes salivation, gets rid of nasty tastes in your mouth and does not contain sugar. Hope that helps.

don't forget to brush your tongue after brushing your teeth. you can also clean it with a spoon or something, to "wipe the dirt" out of it.
a clean tongue is very important for a good breath.
