You didn't provide enough info, so I really can't give you an answer. How old is the dog? What breed? Male or female? Who is it that the dog doesn't like, when and why and how does he act?
You can't change his personality, but if you work at it you can modify some of his behavior.

Watch the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic channel, or rent one of the DVDs....and perhaps there is a website. It changed my family's life when it comes to our dog.

Your dog will probably always be protective. But see about obedience training for him: That might save you both a LOT of trouble.

Just take him around people more and more. Take him to a park - but keep him on a leash. The more they are around people the more desentized they will be to new people. I take my dog EVERYWHERE!!

Get people to give it treats, so it associates new people with good things.
