I attended a funeral couple days ago. One thing it bother mewas someone took some pictures and video tape of their grandparent who past away during the funeral. Isn't it not suppose to do that? Isn't it will disrespect the elder? Who would like to watch the picture and the video anyway..

Personally I find it a bit odd, not to say in poor taste, but that's just IMO...I know that some cultures are into this, and undertakers in some countries even sell prints of the casket photo to those who want one...can't imagine why you would, myself, it seems pretty morbid. I'd prefer to remember the person as they were in life. For some, though, maybe it provides a form of closure. Not my taste.

People like to keep memories good or bad. I think that if someone was to record at a funeral that it should not be considered disrespectful. They should on the other hand keep a good distance away and not focus in on people crying. For some families it is the only time you can record when all or most the the family is together.

For some people, it will be their last chance to see the person, and they want a picture to keep the memory alive. I wouldnt advise it unless you are an immediate relative or had a very close relationship. Video? Of the dead person? Or of the family/friends or people who were reminiscing about the person? Usually, I'd leave that to the weddings, or ask for a recording of the memorial service, not a video.

Back in the old days they used to pose the dead for photos and kept albums of the dead. Not what I want to sit around and look through but hey to each their own. I would never watch a video of a funeral. It is depressing enough to be at.

my family has a photo album of all the people who have passed away thru the years in their caskets... Not really sure why, I think it is a little morbid and strange.. but each family has their own traditions.. the video is what surpises me... unless it was someone who lives out of town and wanted to have something to watch later.. who knows.. I am not sure if it is as much disrespect to the passed.. as much as it may be disrespectful of the family. (we are of German decent if that makes a difference)

actually its not disrespectful because maybe it was a family member who could not attend the funeral. i know at my grandmother's funeral they recorded the whole thing. at first i was like "oh my gosh are yall serious?" but afterward my cousins and i watched it and it kinda made us feel better because while we were at the funeral we werent payin any attention to who was there, so when we watched the tape we relized the entire church was packed and people were standing outside wanting to come in. it made us realize how many people our grandmother had touched and how many people cared about her. it was real comforting.

I don't know if I would videotape, but I did take a picture of my father. It is kinda creepy whenever I look at it but at the same time that's like the last picture I ever took of him. I miss him very much.

This does seem creepy to me, maybe there were relatives that could not attend and they took the video for them? Still seems a bit tacky though.

That was extremely bad taste. Whoever did that should be ashamed of themselves. Why on earth would you want to remember someone that way. I would never dream of doing something like that. You are right, it is totally disrespectful.

I've never seen anyone videotape a funeral---I have however seen people take pictures--I think it's a European thing (they were German).
Seems very creepy to me......
