No, advertising isn't to blame. We always like to point the finger at somebody for all of our problems but the fact is we are responsible for our own bodies and how we choose to take care of it. With children, it's up to their parents to teach them how to make good food choices and provide them with the right kinds of foods. Even the cafeteria food in some schools is very unhealthy. The only ones that can make sure kids are eating right is their parents. Once kids are old enough to have their own money and means of transportation, parents can't always supervise their food choices anymore, so they have to be responsible for their own choices at that time.

When is the last time you seen a 7 year old at Kroger doing some grocery shopping? Or driving through the drive-thru by themself at Mickey D's?

Kids eat what their parents give them to eat, and by what they buy to put in their house to eat. Obese kids are 95% (if not more) the fault of the parents. Might also help to kick the kid out of the house once in a while to go do something other than sit in front of the tv and/or video games.

Lack of exercise and unhealthy diets are the reasons that kids are obese. There's an idea that the outside in inheritantly hurtful now and it's okay for kids to sit indoors and play videogames and watch television. The Nickelodan channel is getting a clue and now following four kids who turned off the television, got outside and got active.

No, I'm a dietitian and I think that obesity is caused by a number of factors....the 3majors ones being lack of exercise , parental role models, and poor eating habits. You can't say that "television advertising is to blame for obese kids"...but it probably influences what they ask their parents to buy - then it's up to the parents.

I don't feel that it is the media's fault for obese kids, it is the parents and the kid's themselves. Allowing their child to sit and watch tv for ridiculously long amounts of time, and for the kids not wanting to be healthy and in shape.

NO, parents who are lazy or uneducated in nutrition are to blame. Kids can't make decisions on what they are fed. Parents need to take a strong roll in making sure they and their kids eat healthy foods.

my opinion is this is a product of a permissive society, and non-effective parenting. children are not disciplined enough and as a result, do not have the proper care of themselves or others in society. extreme cases include the murder of other children in their peer group, or, somewhat less frequently, adults, to include their parents.

Lack of self control and discipline are to blame, not TV!
