Does this mean that a tourist can come here on a tourist, student or work visa and renew it every six months until he's been here 5 years and then become a citizen if he wants... or does it mean that you have to have your green card for 5 years?
And.. is it possible to become a citizen if no one can petition for you?

no, 5 years after you become resident! which means 5 years after your green card.

No, it is not possible to become a citizen without someone you know who can petition for you.

I have never heard of a five-year residency for automatic citizenship. NEVER! That sounds like the type of lie a "mule" would tell his victims in Mexico before sneaking them into the USA.

As to your other questions, they are too technical for me to provide an accurate answer. Why don't you contact your local law enforcement? They have been trained in the procedures to be followed, OR your state bar association.

Answers! is hardly the place to obtain solid legal advice, which is unlawful to distribute without a license anyhow.
