I am dentist, so I can answer your question. The dental school is 4 years. IThe pay depends on where you practice and if you decide to specialize. Any specialty is any where from 2-5 years more (Oral surgery is 5 years and you will also get an MD). Right now the hottest specialty is endodontics (root canals) followed by Orthodontics (braces). I know dentists make anywhere from 200,000 to 2 million. Majority of them work 4 (8 hour) days/week. I prefer dentistry any day because there are virtually no emergencies. Hope that helps. Thanks

typically 2-4 years of undergraduate (mostly biology/chemistry prerequisites. You don't need a degree from a university to get into dental school but you do need to meet the prerequisites which is often at the very minimum 2 years of school. Keep in mind, it is harder to get in after only two years of undergrad. Actually you will find out most entrees into dental school have been out of a 4 year program for a couple years.

As for the second part, Dentistry is a hot field mainly because of supply and demand. The baby boomers are retiring. Many dental schools have had financial difficulties and have closed leading to fewer dentists graduating each year. While some states are better than others, most are retiring more dentists than they are getting new. Avg salary in my region is 150K
