I think people fight about religion because they feel so passionate about it. It is something they feel strongly about and won't budge. The sad thing is that they won't even listen to someone else's opinion. I have friends with different religions and we talk about the differences. They great thing is no one says someone else's religions are wrong. I guess I look at it like my grandmother used to say......we are are headed to the same place, just taking a different path. Best wishes.

Total IGNORANCE!!! That is why all the fighting. If people would but read their bible and really do some research on what they read as well, they would know it is totally reliable and can be taken for what it says. I respectfully disagree that NOBODY has it right so far. There are some that have it right and if you read your bible and really study what it says, you can have it right too. If I could sit down with you for one hour, I could show you things from the bible and back it up with history that would amaze you and you would admit there is a God that is in charge of things even if you did not believe it before. We all have a right to believe whatever we choose to believe, no matter how foolish it may be or how against God it may be. God gave man a free will and as such he is able to choose what he wants from life and what end he wants, either Heaven or HEll fire. No eternity in Hell as most teach but what the bible teaches, that is death when you are burned up and turned to ashes. If people would just read the bible and use some good uncommon sense, not very common any more, they could see what the truth is and stop listening to those that are trying to steer them the wrong way. Everyone has a right to choose Heaven, Hell, life or death. To be igorant or up on things.

I have a theory -
All religions go through different periods in their history.
First is growth - they are small at this point and their only ocncern is survival
second is maintenance - here the religion is trying to grow and stabalize its power. It is an insecure being that feels threatened by the larger established religions. It is characterized by a lack of acceptance of otehr religions, tends to be aggressive and punishes those who do not conform. They fear that people will not accept thier religion or will stray.
Third stage is maturity - here the religion has gained a sense of self - it no longer fears defections as it is secure in its beliefs and in the knowledge that it it correct.
All major religions have gone through this.
The Isrealitees went thruoght this second stage during biblical times, the christians went through it from the fall of the roma empire until teh last century- both have now entered the third stage.
Islam is still in the second stage - they fear anyone questioning thier religion,. they fear outside inflluence and so do all in thier power to stop both.
It is a natural progression and they too will pass into the third stage.
Relgions evolve, islam as the youngest, is still evolving the most.

It comes from a deep emotional need to be RIGHT about something. Rational thought tells us that we cannot know everything, but the unknown always frightens us on a very deep and primitive level.
Religion tells us that it is right without fail about a subject and that is very comforting to people. It gives them a sense of security about what ever it is - death, marriage, social structure and behavior, etc.
When a different point of view is raised they take it on that deep level as a threat to their "knowledge" and it is unsettling to question something that you have taken as fact - even if it is really an emotional shield against the unknown rather than a fact.
So the response to a perceived notion is that it is a threat, and threat responses tend to be hostile.
And to those who will accuse me of being anti-something - nope. Just laying out fact, not saying anyone is wrong about what they believe. I'm not attacking anything, just laying out what any un-biased person with a grasp of human emotional make up would say.

I guess it’s like anything else. If you feel strongly about something and believe your opinion/feelings are right, you don't want anyone telling you you're wrong. Sometimes two religious groups have believes that directly conflict each other and it becomes a battle about who is right.
People that have faith don't like anyone questioning that faith for two reasons... first, it’s upsetting to them that there are people that don't share their views and as such they think those people just don’t understand… that they haven’t yet found “god”, etc. Some nations have fought battles to “enforce” religion onto “ignorant” people. Second, with so many arguing the truth of their religion, they could falter in their own faith. Religious leaders don’t want people questioning their religion… that’s why they call it faith.
There are many other reasons, I’m just trying to simplify.

I know I don't have it right, so I'm agnostic. I'm also buddhist but that's not really a religion. More of a group with similar ideals and thoughts. I like it. I don't fight, but I do get offended very easily when people say my religion is wrong, and that happens all the time. Oh crap... This reminds me that I forgot to go to my friend's bible study... I'm so okay with other people's religion, that I'll go to church with my friends, because I know it will make them happy, but if I ever asked one of my friends to listen to my beliefs, well, they ignore me because they think I'm some work of the devil trying to change them. I just want to be heard for once.

Pointless, if you ask me... Every religion is believing in something (FAITH) Everyone is believing in something (FAITH) even if it's not a religion --- if all the people that believe the things they do start fighting over it, how screwed up would the world be.
I just choose to believe in what I choose and if it makes me and the people around me happy people I have achieved my goal.
I personally do not dismiss other peoples beliefs, after all it's their right to choose whatever they want to in life. {personally I get along with all types of people regardless of their religion or beliefs- why shouldn't I?}

Honestly, that question has been asked literally since the beginning of time. People have been at war over religion forever. And it will never change. And you can't blame any one belief or religion--you can only blame the people interpreting the religions to fit their own agendas.

I believe as long as you asked the Lord Jesus Christ in your heart nobody should disagree! Of course some stuff in the Bible will be a mystery! But if we would understand everything, we wouldn't need God and we wouldn't need faith! In Heaven we won't care about a lot of the stuff we are worried about down here, why this, and why that. So trust in the Lord, he will take care of it!

For some, it's just fun... others want to learn, but just end up neck deep in ****... and others feel that their God has died and left them in charge of the rest of the "Children of God".
I agree with you... NOBODY has it figured out. No matter how many times they say "Mine is right".
