God became a concept for people because he exists and has communicated with us. You don't have to believe in him if you don't want to. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't exist.

(a) I would say that the majority, but certainly not an entire 99%, of wars were provoked by religious conflicts.
(b) There would not be less violence. There is no evidence that chimpanzees, our closest genetic relative, believe in God, but they are some of the most violent (towards each other esp.) of animals.
(c) I think the "God concept" is as old as modern humans themselves. We differentiate ourselves from animals because we don't just live life, we look for a reason to live. From the time when ancient man harnessed fire and created art, he also began to look for explainations of the natural phenomena around him. Lightning became the wrath of a god/godess/gods, and rain their blessing. As our culture became more sophisticated, so did our view of diety, and organize religion resulted.

I doubt it. God is not just a concept. God is real, he created everything. He has a personality, he has likes and dislikes, he has emotions. God is not a concept like justice, he is a being who has left his mark on the entire universe. There is so much design in the universe. Everything has been created with precision and order. The odds of the universe just happening are rediculously astronomical. So, realize there is a God and stop blaming him for the mistakes of man. That's the biggest problem with the world, they don't want to take any responsibility for any of their actions.

A long time ago, when we figured out how to communicate with grunts and pointing...the world was a scary place...Why did the sun come up? What the heck is this wet stuff falling from the sky? Maybe there's someone up there doing it, maybe a group of people? They must be better than me, because I certainly can't do those things...

As people became more complicated so did their gods and yes it would be easier if there was no such thing, but lots of people would tell you that if there wasn't one (or them) then we wouldn't even be here...

because early humans needed something to keep them in line and assimilate everyone to control them better. Early religious leaders were the leaders of thier societies and had power over the masses. Controlling the population through the scare tactic of them being killed by a god or retribution during the afterlife by a vengeful being for their acts during life is an easy way to scare people into behaving. The religous war was made in order to expand early civilizations and motivated people to fight for good vs. evil and provided the leader of the society with more acerage and followers and power and money. So these early wars paved the way for people to become nationalistic and militaristic against other religions.

The "God Concept" (if you believe in such things) was constructed to give people an explanation for their existence. This is something people often need psychologically. Whether it be science or religion, people crave a reason for their life. As for the wars caused by religion, that's a bit of a misdirection. People fight for their way of life. Atheists would fight if their way of life was threatened as well. People that believe women should have an equal voice, might fight with those that don't for example. Don't oversimplify. There's no answers in that.

Well when God came down to Adam and said "I created you." Adam believed it Since that day God tells all of us he created us and loves us so most of us believe him. For those who kept forgeting he sent a reminder 2000 years or so ago. And now we have no excuse for forgetting. There will be a lot less violence in this world when everybody stops worshiping themselves and starts accepting Gods will in thier lives.

Think of this logically. When man evolved to consciousness he found many things he could not answer. What is rain? The Sun? Thunder? Lightning? Seasons? So he started worshiping the elements. In time the elements were given names and personalities and in time the gods became beings who controlled the elements. Each culture developed their gods from there.

Sweeheart it is only because of God that we are not utterly blown off the face of this Earth. If there were no God we could not get along with each other as well as we do. People start wars not God.
