DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK, JUST A QUESTION
Christians say that the Universe must have been created, otherwise it would have never existed. the rationale is that nothing is just there, everything had to be created by something. so the same should apply for God. how could he have always been "just there"?
on a side note: If God created the Universe, then what did he do for entertainment before that, if hes always been around?
paddle ball?

It's called "special pleading"
Christians set up assumptions (note that they are assumptions):
1) everything that exists must have a beginning & a creator
2) the universe exists
Therefore, the universe must have a beginning & a creator
but then the atheist comes along and says... AHH! Let's use YOUR OWN ASSUMPTIONS and continue.
3) God exists.
Therefore, god must have a beginning & a creator.
Christians, by saying that god doesn't have a beginning or a creator are saying that their assumption #1 was false to begin with.
In other words, even THEY don't believe the basis for their claims.
They try to hold other views to a certain standard, and then refuse to meet that standard themselves.
It's hypocritical and it's arrogant.
It's also a position that is logically false due to the above reasons.

Everything which came into being has a cause. The universe, as we know demonstrated by the "Big Bang" had a beginning and so it must have a cause (of great power who fine tunned the whole thing to support life on our planet).
God, being outside of space (since He created it) is outside of time (which exists only when there is space) and so He had no beginning. Since He had no beginning, there's no point in asking what 'caused' Him.
Update:
Note that the post below incorrectly says that Christians argue that everything that "exists" has a cause instead of everything that "comes into being" has a cause. This is an incorrect view of the Christian position.

Even our finite minds can recognize the marvelous systems in our human bodies, and in all creatures, could not have just evolved. We human beings were made in God's own image ... with minds to think and hearts to feel & return love ... and we are told God IS love. The same Creator, Jesus our Lord & Redeemer, tells us in His Word that the "morning stars sang together" which lets us know this small planet is not His only creation. As a Christian, I choose to believe what God tells me and have no problem believing what He says is true, because His character is revealed in His holy 10 commandment law. He does not lie. The very fact that God IS Creator and NOT a created being is WHY He is worthy to be worshipped, adored, and obeyed. As for what He did for entertainment, our feeble minds could not even begin to comprehend His unlimited creative works, but when He comes in the clouds with all His holy angels (Rev.) and takes us to Heaven, our eyes will behold His marvellous works throughout all eternity.

I believe God has always been there and created the earth and us. However you bring up a great point. I don't know the answer to your question.

It is in man's opinion to think that something created God because we are brainwashed to think that way. God was just there watching over us and laughing at ppl who say stuff like you do.
