How old do you have to be to be able to get your tubes tied? I had a friend go in and try to get hers done after she turned 18 and she already has 3 kids but they told her no, now I am 20 and I have 1 child and was thinking about getting mine done but, am I old enough?

I know where I live that they usually prefer the woman to be in her 30's before doing this procedure.
I have 2 children myself and contemplated having it done but after I spoke with a friend of mine she said that I would basically be beating my head against a wall.
She was speaking from experience herself and her doctor had told her that they like to wait until a woman is later in age, that way she is less likely to change her mind and want it reversed later on. Apparently, doctor's really dislike doing the procedure and then find a few years down the road the woman is back to have it undone.
All I can suggest to you is go and speak to your doctor and see what happens.

i had my done at the age of 28 after having 3 kids mine have being tied for two years now , i would wait to u are a little older because maybe down the road u might wanted to have more kids and if u get them tied u will not be able to , so think about it before u do it

It's really up to the doctor's discretion as to whether they will do it. I know the local hospital by me says you have to be 26 and have a minimum of 3 children. The hospital where I am delivering my child said all I have to do is sign a waiver form...I am 24 and I am 4 months pregnant with my second. As long as everything goes OK, I will have mine tied the day after the baby is born. Do some investigating around....if one doctor says no, you have the right to find a second opinion....

It all depends on the Doctor a lot of doctors don't want to tie young woman's tubes because down the road they fear they want to became pregnant and a lot of doctors won't tie them unless they are cut tied and burned. I had my tubes tied at 24 and somehow they came undone and i ended up with twins at 29. I was then cut tied and burned.

Depends upon the state. I had both of my daughters in NC -- was 24 when the second one was born. Dr. said you had to be 25, or have two children. Lucky for me, since it was my second one, they tied my tubes the next day.
Check with the health dept. they should be able to tell you for sure. Keep in mind, when I had my tubes done, it was 1990, things may have changed!

My doctor didn't want to tie my tubes until I was 25 years old. Some doctors will tie tubes if your over 21.

i live in VA and i am 21 i am getting my tubes tied next month but in my state the "rule" is 21 and two kids, which i have. or 25 w/no kids and married. you could drive here to Va to get it done since you are so close. good luck

it all depends on what state you are in. The "rule" used to be 25 or 3 kids or married. and yet I have a friend who is 22 3 kid and they still won't akf your dr. goodluck.
