If one subscribes to the theory of reincarnation, then it is quite simple. We are sent here to experience life, to learn and to achieve, or to make mistakes. We are continually learning from the time we enter the Earth until the time we leave it. As we move throughout our lifetimes, we create our karma which will affect our outcome in the spirit world and which will determine if we need to come back to Earth again to correct our mistakes and to continually progress along our pathway.

The Buddhists believe that we can break the cycle of reincarnation by maintaining thoughts of love and compassion to all beings, by sending thoughts of love and blessings to ourselves and to others, and by following a practice of right living. The teachings of Jesus are very similar to Buddhist teachings; in fact, it is well known throughout India that Jesus spent his "missing years" in India, studying with the Buddhists. There is a passage that is attributed to Jesus as saying something to the effect that there are "many mansions" to the soul... meaning of course that the soul or spirit is eternal, and that the body is temporal, or impermanent. The soul, once finished with one body, then occupies another. Most of the reincarnation doctrines were taken out of Christianity during the Council of Nicea, which established the Roman Catholic Church as the official state theology of the Roman Empire, since it did not serve Rome well for its citizens to realize that all human beings are part of the divine nature of God. That was a right only reserved for Caesar, or for those whom Rome officially deified, such as the historic Jesus.

God is not mean... only people are. Unfortunately, it's people who are responsible for the mean-spiritedness that manifests in the world, and who pass that mean-spiritedness on to others who do not think, act or speak as they do. And because so many people carry out hatred, bigotry and intolerance in the name of God, their own negative attributes become associated with God. Dogmatic fundamentalism is a prime example of this. Look at how much hatred, strife and warfare is being done in the world by extremist fundamentalists who warp their own religions by acting in hatred as opposed to behaving with the love and compassion such as their own religions propose that they do for all mankind.

None of us have all the answers, but I believe that if we can all learn to practice more kindness and compassion, then our world would be a better place... and we wouldn't have to keep coming back here to work it all out again.

According to some of the great Hindu Scriptures, like the Bhagavadgita and the other Upanishads, it has been clearly documented that God manifests this universe when he desires to be contented with his art of creation. When he prepares the Universe, he makes lot of animals, plants and various other species and organisms. These organisms have their own souls, and each soul keeps changing one body to another. The kind of body each soul gets varies according to the deeds done through its said bodies. Till the time these souls re-unite with the God, they need to change their attires-i.e bodies.
Now the path to God realization is no cake walk, so these poor souls keep on coming back to the earth in one or the other attire!
So, this is how people keep on coming to the earth. Actually, they are the same set of souls but with different bodies.

People happen to be cought in the vicious circle of life and death due to their KARMAS or their deeds( Good or Bad).

If one's deeds are good and one is more God oriented then God gives such souls numerous other chances to rectify their KARMAS. Infact, our Hindu scriptures say that Human incarnation is provided only for God realization. So, even if one fails one time, if the motto is pure and strong enough, one can get second or third chances.

God is not mean. Various Hindu scriptures write and reiterate that God is beyond any Quality, i.e he is niether Good nor Bad.Infact, one of his powers called the SHAKTI manages the earthly affairs. Even though God is a witness in every body's heart, then too he does not interfere in the work of SHAKTI and is not at all affected by any of Human instances.

I hope you've got some basic idea now.

Thanks

God's not being mean. Life isn't really a test. In the Bible it says we are here so that we can worship God. Life wouldn't have been hard if Eve wouldn't have been tempted by the serpent in the Garden of Eden. That's the reason there is sin and death and pain in the world. God sent his son down to Earth to save us from those sins. That's why there is the Bible, so we can learn how to worship God and why we are here and what we need to do to succeed. The Bible contains the answers needed to pass this test you call life. So by following the Bible's teachings and taking Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then when we die here on Earth, we can live forever in Heaven with God.

I rambled a lot, but all the answers you need are in the Bible...I recommend the New International Version or New King James Version since they are easier to read.

Life can be tough and I for one have botched many a situation--I take comfort in the fact that 1) I am not alone and 2) God knows I can't do everything right (given how often I mess up it might be closer to say anything).

That said, as a Christian, I don't view life so much as a test as an opportunity--God allows people to be born (we don't exist before conception) out of his love for humanity (if you or I never existed then instead of an opportunity to know God, there would be nothing).

The Bible notes that people continue to be born so that all who might desire to know God will have that opportunity.

At the same time, again noting the "test" you mentioned previously, the chance to know God and live with Him forever is a free gift, no strings attached. Jesus died for all of us and placing our trust in this act is all we are called to do for a relationship with God. That said, once the relationship starts, it will change your life.

First of all let me reassure you these are good questions. God has not caused the suffering that we go through.1) We all suffer for various reasons related to inheriting imperfection, which makes us prone to weak fleshly tendencies. 2) we also suffer from th consequences of others actions that are beyond our control( ex: drunk driver, sniper, any type of victimization). We have lots of opportunity to make good decisions now. It's up to us to listen to how he speaks to us through the pages of the bible. 3)then we don't have to reap bitter results from our own actions. Ultimately out of love God gives us free will to choose the kind of life we want to have and promises an earthly paradise without all the suffering that man is familiar with if we make the choice. Consider this ; if God were mean then wouldn't he move the sun a little so that we could burn or freeze, and would he have given us a chance to prove our loyalty (unlike Adam and Eve), and would he make our bodies have the basic abilities to recover after illness or trauma, or keep providing the air we breathe , the beautiful sunsets, the refreshing rain, the light at night(stars/ moon). The food we eat. Just consider the things he has done.

I like to think that we are spiritual beings, and that coming to Earth in the form of a body, is like an exciting adventure or an assignment. We want to come here because we know that we will learn and grow as a result of our experience here. But while we are here, we don't remember our spiritual selves, at least not consciously, and our existence seems hard and unpleasant. Our true selves, however, are still there inside us watching, learning, and participating in ways that our conscious minds are not aware of. And when it's all over, and we leave our physical bodies behind we will have the opportunity to sift through our experiences on Earth and understand the true spiritual significance and lessons learned from it all. And then, we'll get the chance to do it again.

In that sense, God doesn't send us per se, we are eager to come here. As to where we are coming from, my guess is that there are tons and tons of spiritual beings and that physical existence on Earth is just one of the many adventures available to a spiritual being in the cosmic amusement park. I believe we get more than one chance and that it's not a test, it's just a learning experience.

Viewed in this way, God is not mean.

Mean? You hear an offer for an abundant life and complete forgiveness of every mistake, and that's "mean"?

Why do you impose such arbitrary values on God?

As for sending people to Earth, that's hardly a bad deal. Life here has ups and downs, but the promise of a new Earth is exciting. Everyone there gets to live up to his/her potential, while basking in the presence of their most loved.

Imagine Aruba and Hawaii on your honeymoon w/ your new bestselling book entering it's 3 printing...eternal life w/ God will be better than that.

God does not send people to earth. Jesus told us that no man had entered heaven except him. People are procreated by men and women.

We get many years of chances; if we are worthy; during the thousand year reign of Christ when many people will be resurrected from the grave back to life on earth during judgment.

What has to happen first is the end of all false worship and false religious ideas wherefore mankind can live apart from evil influence under paradise conditions; and mankind can prove their righteousness and their right to life or death. If judged worthy of life in the second judgment then everlasting life is promised.

The people keep coming from people having sex. That is what usually creates other humans. God gave freewill and the rest of what goes on here on earth is up to the people. It is like a director of the play. He creates the play, sits at all the rehearsals and goes to opening night...after that, he lets the actors, staff, etc. be on their own and rarely shows up. What ever happens to the play at that point is on them. He will occasionally show up if there is a HUGE problem, but otherwise he is basking on a beach in the Carribean!

My thoughts are, You are put on this earth for a reason. You have to fullfill this. If you dont do it, you have to do another life all over again. I think thats why people die at an early age...Maybe all you had to do is do a good deed for someone...then thats it. You move on. I think that people who die at an early age, did what they were sent for. The people who die late in life may not have done what they were sent for. Now the time is up and they have to do it again. Just my opinion.

my friend, you ask the wrong question, and all of you good people who have responded are similarly in the dark. The question that needs answering is Why did a Creator endow us with the gift of consciousness and self awareness, not necessarily why were we given life. To know that ones self, exists, is a greater puzzlement than to ask why were we born. To be conscious is to create a reality with which to be conscious of. This is not tautology , circular reasoning, but today ponder why we the human creature has as far as we ( humankind ) know the only level of consciousness in the known universe which has the opportunity of seeing ourselves as distinct from other creatures and believe it to be true. Forget the worlds religions , because all of the real questions start with this premise - the idea of self awareness. I kinda' like the way genesis deals with this. signed : makewoods
