No one has the slightest physical evidence to support a historical Jesus; no artifacts, dwelling, works of carpentry, or self-written manuscripts. All claims about Jesus derive from writings of other people. There occurs no contemporary Roman record that shows Pontius Pilate executing a man named Jesus. Devastating to historians, there occurs not a single contemporary writing that mentions Jesus. All documents about Jesus got written well after the life of the alleged Jesus from either: unknown authors, people who had never met an earthly Jesus, or from fraudulent, mythical or allegorical writings. Although one can argue that many of these writings come from fraud or interpolations, I will use the information and dates to show that even if these sources did not come from interpolations, they could still not serve as reliable evidence for a historical Jesus, simply because all sources derive from hearsay accounts.
Hearsay means information derived from other people rather than on a witness' own knowledge.
Courts of law do not generally allow hearsay as testimony, and nor does honest modern scholarship. Hearsay provides no proof or good evidence, and therefore, we should dismiss it.
If you do not understand this, imagine yourself confronted with a charge for a crime which you know you did not commit. You feel confident that no one can prove guilt because you know that there exists no evidence whatsoever for the charge against you. Now imagine that you stand present in a court of law that allows hearsay as evidence. When the prosecution presents its case, everyone who takes the stand against you claims that you committed the crime, not as a witness themselves, but solely because other people said so. None of these other people, mind you, ever show up in court, nor can anyone find them.
Hearsay does not work as evidence because we have no way of knowing whether the person lies, or simply bases his or her information on wrongful belief or bias. We know from history about witchcraft trials and kangaroo courts that hearsay provides neither reliable nor fair statements of evidence. We know that mythology can arise out of no good information whatsoever. We live in a world where many people believe in demons, UFOs, ghosts, or monsters, and an innumerable number of fantasies believed as fact taken from nothing but belief and hearsay. It derives from these reasons why hearsay cannot serves as good evidence, and the same reasoning must go against the claims of a historical Jesus or any other historical person.
Authors of ancient history today, of course, can only write from indirect observation in a time far removed from their aim. But a valid historian's own writing gets cited with sources that trace to the subject themselves, or to eyewitnesses and artifacts. For example a historian today who writes about the life of George Washington, of course, can not serve as an eyewitness, but he can provide citations to documents which give personal or eyewitness accounts. None of the historians about Jesus give reliable sources to eyewitnesses, therefore all we have remains as hearsay.
Ps. That is how a cult stays strong, with the fear of being outcasted people will do what there told and not what they think

Being a bit judgemental, aren't you? Who says that ALL Christians think you are a fool. While anyone would say you are foolish for some beliefs you may have and everyone is a sinner, even the lowly Christian, to call someone a fool is a danger to your own well being. Not ALL Christains are that way just as not all non Christians are fools. Foolish, maybe, but not fools. Hey, if you choose to not want to be a Christian, it is YOUR right and I, for one, will applaud you for having that right and privilege to choose whatever you want from life. But don't put all Christians down for a few incompetent ones that may be doing things they know better than to do.

I'm a Christian, and I don't think people with other beliefs are necessarily a fool. If I was born in an Islamic country, more than likely I would believe Islam was the true way. It's all about culture. But as a Christians we are taught to spread the gospel... that's why we try and convince people that Christianity is the way... b/c that's what we believe. I will say, I have difficulty with atheists... I'm not slamming the person, I just can't imagine looking at the world and actually thinking it just suddenly appeared or evolved into what it is today without help.

Not all Christians think like that. I know your experience with Christians must have been a bad one. But surely you've found a bunch of religious-fanatic narrow-minded fools. It's human nature to question what we don't understand, and we deserve a convincing answer that satisfies our needs. But being labeled as a fool that needs to be converted just because they can't answer the questions themselves, I think that's the most moronic easy way out. I'm not afraid to say I don't know. I don't have to know everything. But that doesn't give me the right to condemn others. The often misinterpreted bible even says "judge and you'll be judged". And it's ACTIONS what make you a sinner, not beliefs. How about those many other religions that existed before us Christians? Are they sinners or fools? IMHO, if you can't have respect of others, then you're NOT a good Christian. You're just a show-off.

Yes, there isnt a slight bit of evidence in history to infact prove that Jesus Christ is real. BUT that does not mean that every Christian believes that you're a fool if you are not. It is a job as a Christian to try to speak the word of God to others that do not believe in him, BUT for God so loved the "WHOLE" world. Believers and Non-Believers are still objected to have the love of God.
If the believer fails to spread the love of God's word, than they should not think the non-believer as a fool.
As a child of God, it is our job is accept everyone. Believer or Non-Believer, we are all the same. We are all loved equally.
You are not a fool, but there is just a line some Christians prefer to not cross over and some Christians do.
Unfortunately there are some Christians that are unaware of the right way to spread the word, which often comes off as harsh and rude.
But the right way is to show you compassion and love, the way Jesus Christ would.
So, you are not a fool. There is just a very thin line between the two, but that does not mean we cant live in harmony together.

The irony of this question is that a great many of the respondants that are christians demonstrate in their answer exactly the qualities that make non-christians like myself find them so hard to deal with.
I respect their right to believe what they believe. I am athiest. I believe that the world was created by chance through a series of scientifically describable (some not yet described) processes. And those of you that don't believe that much "good fortune" can possibly happen by chance should read up on the weak anthropic principal.
To the questioner I say, "who cares what they think?". I respect the opinions of those I respect. I listen, I consider and I come to my own conclusions. You should do the same. Listen to the christians, the islamics, the budhists, the athiests and everyone else you can find, but probably not the satanics, those guys are just crazy ;-)
Keep an open mind. Decide what you believe and don't allow anyone to make you feel foolish for believing what you do.
Religion is a substitute for self confidence.

Sarah I don't think that you are a fool. I just think that most people who are not believers are always angry. I'm not perfect and I never will be, but I have hope and I know that everything will be o.k. because ther is a bigger plan then just all of this. Tell me something if you don't believe in God, how do you think that we got here? If evolution then why aren't monkeys still changing in to humans? Did it just stop at some point? We are all sinners until we come to Christ. We are born into sin. The debt has been payed all we have to do is accept the one who payed it. He loves you just as much as He loves me , so I would never call you a fool. I would call you my sister.

We don't think your a fool. Mainly the only Christians that will give you the 'dirty look' if you tell them that you're not Christian are the older people who still believe in the whole fire and brimestone stuff they were told as a kid. If you don't believe in God then thats fine, unfortunate, but fine. Everyone has gone through a phase where they decide they have to be anything BUT Christian. I, for example happen to have an interest in wicca. It doesn't mean I don't believe in God or ever will believe in God again it just means I'm exploring my choices.
Anyways, all I'm trying to say is that the only one who can make a fool out of you is you. I hope that helps. Blessed be your choice.

We don't think that you are a fool and EVERYONE sins. We don't view ourselves as holy or perfect. But the fact is, if you are not a Christian then you DO need to be converted, because we want you to go to heaven. We shouldn't be shoving it in your face, but you should try and view Christianity with an open mind and then God will do the rest. Hope you find your way!

I believe you are mistaken to say all Christians think of non-Christians as fools. Many of us specially my family do not. We are always taught how to respect other's belief even by the late Pope John Paul II. Maybe you have exposed yourself too much to those who do not even know what it is to be a Christian. Muslims call all non-Islamic believers as infidels that is why their suicide bombers never worry to inflict the innocents. But we believe that not all Muslims think of it that way also. Those are the Fundamentalist Militants who have their own agenda of controllinng the world.
You will never hear of Christians destroying images or icons of other religions such as the Buddhists, Hindus and other sects with the consent of their leaders but Islamic Militants does that in any place They do it even if carries a historical value and obviously they do it in order to make their own history erasing all potential informations in the world which may prove that most of their teachings to be doubtful.
Study and observe first before you ask questions and don't generalize please.

Some people, not just Christians are close minded and do not have God given sense to at least listen to other people's perspectives.
There are so many different religious beliefs, who is to say who is right or wrong.
Find a belief that you embrace and do not dwell on what others think.
Ultimately, I believe we answer to God, not some human.
