I've asked a similar question, and the answer that seemed most legitimate is that many law makers often quote religion as their motivation for passing various laws.
But I agree with you, people use the word "force" way too lightly, I think it's a word to be taken seriously. I mean "force" is the difference between an outing, and a kidnapping, making love and rape.
I don't think "force" is a fair word to use for ideas and products to be shared in a free-market society. I'll take rude, I'll take pestering, I'll take annoying seriously...but I never take the word "force" very seriously in this context. They only weaken their argument by using it.

Just discussing beliefs, disagreeing... no, that is not forcing beliefs on them. But how about being ostracized from your community? Having pamphlets and posters stuck on the front of your house to let others know you aren't a Christian? Called names in the local store, so that everyone knows you are there... "Well, there's the heathen!"
There are things that happen like this (I know, it has happened to me)... so I do consider that as someone trying to force their beliefs on me. One doesn't need to use a knife or a gun.... Some groups are really good at trying to make a person look guilty just for being different.... *I wonder if they liked the Pagan Pamphlets I made and left on their doorstep?*

You do it by MISusing the law, and the law is enforced by police who are armed with guns.
Thus, yes, you do it by gunpoint by extension.
And no one is forcing their beliefs on you. When have you EVER heard of an atheist trying to get your children to say every day in school that God does NOT exist? NEVER. NEVER HAPPENED.
Grow up, you little liar.

I do not feel any of the Christians I recognize in my view ever consciously attempt to make me do matters. But I can record off lots of films, Devil, A Walk to Remember, The Omen, and so on that each one attempt to inform the viewers that there is a Christian God that you simply secretly recognize is truly. I consider whenever I've ever recited the Pledge of Allegiance that I ended up bringing up God, I can pull out any of the charges in my pockets and discover the phrases 'In God We Trust.' I consider a organization of persons external the State Fair this yr, with indicators, that had been all screaming approximately me going to hell, approximately the sons and daughters coming in going to hell, the ancient guy within the wheelchair going to hell. I consider Pat Robertson pronouncing that Haiti made a manage the satan. I can not say that I have no idea any individual that does those matters in my view. I will admit that I recognize the sort of atheist that does that whiny factor and it grates on my nerves to no finish (alas a massive element of my peers are that sort of atheist). But I additionally need to admit that I've been bullied via Christianity. People right here write feedback, and those cross each approaches, seeking to inform persons they are dull for believing or no longer believing. Your faith itself technically attempts to drive persons with that Commandment approximately believing in God. And I surely do not hate Christians, I do not feel they are imply as a organization, considering so much persons I recognize are Christian so I simply could not maintain that false impression up if I attempted. The factor is, despite the fact that, I think as despite the fact that considering there are lots of of you, and considering it is so much embedded in our tradition from being excepted for such many years, that there is a manner where you, as a Christian, can not be pressured into matters in the way in which I can. I think as despite the fact that considering it is some thing excepted in so much TV suggests, even, that there is only a manner that is not any Christian purpose or individual fault, that I will also be driven into this.

My grandmother tries to force her beliefs on me every time I see her. She is a liberal Christian, and is very upset by 3 of her children's choice to raise their children agnostic. She often requests that I go to church with her, and presses the matter when I say no. There is no gun or knife, but it is forcing her beliefs all the same. What if she cuts me from her will? Acts unloving towards me? Are these not attempts to make me Christian as well, if only to please her selfish desires?

On a spiritual level, do you pray to your God that non-believers will "see the light" and accept Jesus and be "saved"?
Is that not an attempt to force your beliefs onto them, by asking your God to change them into Christians?

I completely agree. It's an extremely weak argument to tell someone "why do you think what you believe is true?"...duh...that's almost as bad as being in a disagreement with someone and them saying "you always think your right"....um...if I didn't think I was right, I would be on your side of the disagreement. "Everyone" think's that they are correct in a disagreement....that would be why there is a disagreement.
The difference lies in how you put forth your views. Do you do it by explaining yourself or by insulting the others? Unfortunatley the majority of the posts here are the latter.

when they answer questions that don't have any thing to do with christianity (like Wiccan questions) with something like "you need to believe in jesus or you will go to hell" when most other religions don't believe in either. then get pissed if other religions do it
