Swish often with salt water, or just get some antibiotics and/or Advil until the infection is gone. Saltwater will toughen it up.

Sorry to answer with an alternative that you do not want to hear. But worked in oral surgery for 10 years and I just have to say that tooth aches do not really go away. There might be an alternative to having it extracted that's only if there is no cyst involved at the root(roots there are 3 on a wisdom tooth) you can have the tissue gum that partially is covering the tooth removed(surgery) But depending on your age it just might be coming threw. Like when you are young you loose your deciduous teeth (baby teeth) and your permanent teeth break through the gingiva (gums) If the pain consists or IF ANY TYPE OF SWELLING occurs don't put ice on it. Call an Oral Surgeon or at least you dentist and have a PANOREX taken it is an X-ray of your whole mouth (both upper and lower jaws can be viewed) and there is no pain involved with that. If you are older at least 19-20 yrs old and are now experiencing pain the best thing to do about this is have an X-ray It will definitely show what is going on throughout your whole mouth

Good Luck Trust Me Get An X-ray It Will Save You Time & Money In The Long Run

You are better off having the surgery to remove them. Believe me you put them off, the wisdom teeth will start pushing your other teeth, and then you will be in some pain. Your dentist knows what he is talking about . He didn't go to school for 8 years for nothing. have them removed

The term for what you have is pericoronitis . It almost always involves 3rd . molars because even if they erupt ,there is insufficient room behind them and the gum tissue piles up sometimes creating a small flap . Its a very easy procedure to have a dentist remove the excess tissue ,but if you insist on self treatment you may find a product called Glyoxide may be helpful . Squirt some under the flap of tissue and it will release hydrogen peroxide slowly to kill some of the bacteria that are causing the problem. All so if you want to invest in a Waterpic (oral irrigator ) you can wash the area out with salt water or mouth wash by running the tip around the tooth in question

ok, try antibiotics for treating the infection. Try antiinflamatory like advil for inflamation. Also dilute a teaspoon of salt or soda in a cup of really warm water(as hot as you can tolerate without burning yourself), anyways rinse your mouth/tooth with that several times a day. Aldo you might want to add some chamomile or calendula oil(sold in vitamin shops and some health food stores), they are natural healers. Try that for few days. But if your pain persists and you'll see that your face on the side of the tooth is swelling, you should go to the doctor to avoid bad complications. Whatever you do, try getting an antibiotic and taking it as soon as possible to stop the infection.

I'm sorry but I honestly don't think you can avoid seeing a dentist for something like this.
You don't want the infection to get into your circulatory system & can effect your heart. Sometimes we just have to do what's best.
Ask some family & friends of a good recommendation of a nice dentist.

Use Orajel to numb your tooth, but if you think it is infected, you should really get some antibiotics.
