My goldren retriever had skin allergies and the vet suggested we feed her Science Diet. I would think because it came from a Vet it would be one of the better brands.
The most important thing is to feed them the correct food for their age group... Puppies need certain nutrients and food made for young pups include them. They have special formulas for active dogs, overweight dogs and old dogs.
Call your local vet and ask them to suggest a brand. As for giving them wholegrain ceral for treats, it's probably better than the actual treats you can buy that are loaded with preservatives and god-knows-what! We used to give out pup mini carrot sticks for snacks and on hot summer days an ice cube which she would either clutch between her paws to chew on or chase around the kitchen floor!

The vet told me that Science Diet was the best all around dog food. It isn't that much more expensive than the others either.
I think it would be OK to give a dog wholegrain cereal as a treat.

I don't have a dog at the moment but once I get my Dalmatian puppy, she will be fed Innova puppy kibble and cooked/raw human food (eg. meat, veggies, fruit etc.). You have two dogs of different ages so feed Canidae - All Life Stages. Very healthy brand, not going to be effected by pet food recall and is suitable for dogs of all ages.

When I had puppies and dogs, I usually stuck with Purina myself. Some vets would disagree with Purina and would strongly recommend Science Diet for dogs or cats or puppies or kittens. But for me, Science Diet is rather expensive. But any Purina products are fine for dogs and puppies. It is less expensive and good for the dogs. Check and see if there are Purina dog treats too.
Good luck to you and your dog! Pets are wonderful friends and companions to those humans who love them so much.

In my opinion, it dosnt really matter as long as your dog likes to eat it! It could be rated best in the world but ur dog might end up taking a sniff and walking away...
its a dog's life!

My husky is on Iams. She likes it, before she was on Nutro, but that was too expensive for me, the quality is just as good, and the husky like her food, and that makes me happy. People have mixed thoughts on people food, and I have mine.
