Little dogs can be on puppy food till they are about 14 months. They make toy sized dog food now if you buy premium. Let me recommend Royal Cannin Yorkie to you. Yorkies have special needs like most animals (for example there fur very closely resembles the structure of human hair) & this particular brand of dog food fulfills the nutrional needs of this breed. Plus, the kibble, even in the adult yorkie food, is very small & easy to chew.

If you dont have Royal Canin where you live, try either Nutro or Purina Pro Plan. All of these are considered premium foods & make a type for small adult dogs.

Good luck with your puppy!

There are some dog food makers that make a Small Breed Adult food, so as your dog approaches 1yr old, start changing over to that. It's fairly new, so probably your best bet for finding it is a Petco or PetsSmart until it becomes more popular.
Good luck!

Puppy food is easier to chew and has nutrients and ingredients that help the puppy ward off infection and grow. Adult dogs (ages 4-8) don't need help chewing unless they have bad teeth. They're also full grown so they don't need help with that. And the infections their susceptible to are different, as well. Older dogs (9+), do need help with chewing, but they have different nutritional needs than puppies. That's why there's different foods for different stages of life. If you fed an adult dog puppy food, they could end up gaining weight, being malnourished and getting tooth decay (since the hard kibble fights plaque and gingivitis).

There are lots of foods that make smaller kibble for small breeds, switch her over to one of those.

Make sure to do it slowly.... mix the new food in about 1/3 new 2/3 old food for a few days, then 1/2 and 1/2 the next few days, the 2/3 new food and 1/3 old food the next few days and finally let her eat just the new food.... you need to do it slow so she doesn't get diarrhea

1 year to around 18 months. I would ask your Vet what they recommend. My dog is 6 years old, and I still feed her puppy food(Vet recommended) due to stomach issues.

about a year old. when you convert the food, make sure you do it slowly by mixing the new food with the current food, a little at a time until she is eating all new food.

Guilde line is when the dog turns one year old, but if you have questions ask your vet.
