MOST pedophiles are NOT religious people. You only hear about the ones who are, because of our present media fascination with the subject makes a priest or a minister a more newsworthy target.

This world is full of disgusting and nasty people -- some of them are posing as "nice guys" and religious leaders. I'm sure if you truly looked into their hearts, they are just using their positions to win the trust of children and their parents.

That is a very bad misconception. It might be more accurate to say, "Why are most religious pedophiles actions reported on the news and through the media?"

Statistically it isn't true, but it is much more newsworthy to hear about a Priest or Church Leader getting arrested or accused of anything perverted (theft, molestation, adultery). Nobody cares if Joe Schmo the local town drunk got got cheating on his wife with the 13 year old neighbor girl.

They aren't, but it seems that way. Religion is a way for pedophiles to gain access to children in a way that is protected by the fact that they are authority figures and can play on their undeveloped sense of right and wrong. The fact that there seem to more ministerial pedophiles is because they make a bigger splash in the media pond when caught.

They aren't, just like most who take the name of religion. Claiming to be religious doesn't make you religious. Why is religion the only thing that seems to work with? Why is it I claim to be a giraffe but no one believes me that I am a giraffe? I mean if I say I am a Christian, or a Jew, or any other religion people believe I am that religion. Most go to Church or such because the way you make people feel safe is to be that pilliar of the community. That way you can convince the kid that no one will believe them, and you can go along doing anything you want because people think you are perfect. Doesn't make you religious or perfect, just means you know how to cover yourself.

I didn't know they were? But for the sake of the conversation how about a little speculation? If I had to venture a guess it may be based on a pedo reaching out to religion because of deep guilt based on his or her actions or thoughts. Maybe there are hopes of salvation and help from religion. I was born and raised a Catholic and although I went years without attending church, when my life took a down turn through my own actions, I turned to church and a priest for guidance and stabilization. Do think the pedo may be doing the same thing? Reaching out? I think that may be a good explanation. God and religion above all are there to help us, for us to reach out to, pedo's need more help then most of us so I think it's the perfect place to be for a troubled and tourtured soul.

Aren't most people "religious" in some way? If you mean the clergy, I think pedophilia can represent a kind of emotional retardation on the part of the priest. Most people who become priests make this decision while in boyhood, so in a sense they "stop" maturing at that point. I think the clergy's attraction to boys is really a weird kind of attraction to an image of oneself.

I'd rather know why so many parents who either kill their kids or contemplate killing them are religious people.
