I'm not very into drinking but there are two beers I really like and I'm a vegetarian so I wanted to know if Brahma and Corona along with Smirnoff Ice(my favorite alcoholic drink) are vegetarian. I have read some animal products are used in fermintation of alcohol so are these drinks ok for a vegetarian, I have seen some lists online but none have been very thorough though. Can anyone help me out?

Technically Yeast are animals, microscopic ones, though in your finished wine or beer they are dead and for the most part have settled out before being bottled. Alcohol is a byproduct created by yeast as the feed.

Sometime Gelatin is used in the process of Fining Wine and beer (Fining is the removal a bitter elements) most gelatin in the USA is made from Cows. Other products sometimes used in Fining Wines are Egg Whites, and Isinglass (made from Fish Swim Bladders)

LONG LONG ago they used to use Bulls' Blood to fine wine. This practice is illegal in Europe and is rarely if ever done in the US.

Although all of these items settle out before the wine is bottled, the resulting wine would have been touched by it, so it depends on how strict a vegetarian you are.

SPIRITS
Drinks suitable for vegetarians and vegans
Alcohol production and vegetarianism does not always mix comfortably. Here we present a list of spirits and aperitifs suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Most of the drinks listed are available in off-licences around the country. While the list is most probably incomplete, it goes some way towards providing at least a couple of recognisable labels in each of the spirits categories.

If your regular tipple isn't on this list, it does not necessarily mean that it is not vegetarian. If in doubt, a letter to the manufacturers is always a good idea. If anyone gets more information on any drinks or foods, please let us know.

The following list has been compiled with the help of Audrey Neilson, who obtained the UDV UK list of drinks suitable for vegetarians (many thanks for your help), also from the Vegan Society in the UK and their publication "Animal-Free Shopper".

There are lists on the web -- I answered this question a LONG time ago... I'll see if I can find it... BRB

Here you go! (I don't see "malt beverages" like the Schmirnoff's Ice mentioned anywhere... research a bit deeper, or perhaps email some of these sites)

HAHA seems like more of a chore than a pleasure to be a veggie eater, if you want the beer drink it, unless you are deathly allergic to animal byproducts, I am sure hippie freaks wont be judging your ever move...............

My wife brews our beer, and I can assure you absolutely no animal products are involved, unless you count the yeast critters.
