At one time you were given 2 weeks grace to tax your car. As there are over 1 million untaxed cars you would think that people are given a lifetime grace from taxing them. By law though, there is no grace period unless you've just bought a new car.

In some states, Oklahoma for example, you won't have to pay the penalty if you pay within 30 days of the expiration, but...once it is expired, there is no grace period. The day it runs out, if not renewed, you are driving without tags and you are subject to being towed.

No. You can buy your tax before the old one runs out but you can't let it wait, be like the rest of us do it on time.

There is no longer any days of grace to get your car re-licenced. Unless you have a really good excuse, chances are you would be fined.
