If it is truely a muscle ache, you need to loosen the muscles back up. Ben Gay, Icy Hot and the like don't do jack squat. Light stretching, a heating pad and an Ibuprofin will do the most for you.

An Epsom salt wrap also does the trick.
Soak a rag or towel in warm/hot water with Epsom salt, then apply to hurting area. You can even bathe in Epsom salt--though it doesn't really get you clean, just relieves muscle aches without taking medication.

Aside from everything already mentioned, one household remedy you can try is good old isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). If the ache is localized, rub it over the affected muscle. If it's your whole body, I wouldn't bother and would try one of the other methods.

Yoga works for me. It helps you really stretch your muscles. A nice hot bath with lavender or Arnica. Steam baths also can help.

Eat lots of fruit or try creatine. Creatine is costly though but it builds stamina in your muscles and is not natural like fruit.

Stretch, and drink more fluids. Light exercise. Those are my ideas, few, but golden.
