We have another dog that is a lab/english springer mix. She is lonely, sleeping alot and not eating. Polly also will not let us out of her site when in the house. I want to wait awhile before we get another dog..any ideas?

Your dog is grieving. Just like people, they form bonds and attachments and have feelings. She is also feeling vulnerable. Spend a lot of time with her and give her lots of attention and hugs and love and talk to her. A new puppy or better yet a rescue dog from the shelter will go along way to making you both feel better. What did the other dog die of? Make sure this dog is okay before bringing another into your home. You might want to have her checked out by a vet. So sorry for your loss.

I am very sorry about your lab. Polly sounds very sad. she will most likely keep acting like this though until you get her a companion. Another dog, a cat, rabbit, bird, chinchilla. Lots of animals would make good companions for her. You could also try taking her to dog-parks, or introducing her to other dogs in the neighborhood and try socializing her with them more often. She would really like another dog though. Especially a puppy that she could take care of. No dog will replace your old dog, but new joy will help with the loss.

Dogs mourn like people do. It is natural for him not to eat or sleep properly for a while. The length of the "while" depends on the individual dog, just like with people. Think of what you need and chances are it is what your dog needs: extra love, patience, time, lots of cuddles, reassurance that he won't be left all alone, that you won't leave him, that his world continues etc. Good luck. Be patient with him and with yourselves. Wait until he settles down before you add the stress of a new dog. Give yourselves time to finish grieving. Sorry for your loss.

Dogs and cats like humans will grieve over the loss of another. This process may manifest itself in various ways ie: not eating, lethargy and a need to be reassured by us! I would suggest that you continue with her normal routine for awhile and maybe after she has had time to accept the loss, then introduce her to a new buddy!!

I hope the first dog wasn't sick. Have the 2nd dog checked by a Vet. Then try walking her more often at the park and play with her. Probably get a 2nd dog to replace the one that died.

that's toooooo sad...Ok i think you need to search for another lab the same thing and same color, i mean everything should be the same with the other dog which's gone...she will come to know that he's not the same one but she'll be fine after 2 or 3 days coz i've been there done that and this trick worked out great....
try to find one just the same as soon as possible coz she might die too

Your other dog is missing her friend as are you. This is just how she does it. Just give her time that should help.
