Ok, i was thinking, are they sins or natural human characteristics? Think about it, two toddlers playing together, do they know about sin, rapture, jesus christ and religion? Do they care? No, so if these toddlers are playing together and one has more toys than the other, the one with less toys will show envy by seeing he has less toys. The one with more toys won't lend the other one any toys, now he's showing greed. The one with less toys will take one and might hit the other kid in order to take it, now he's showing wrath. So in a split second these two toddlers have shown us 3 of the 7 "deadly sins". That makes me think, maybe they are not sins but natural human characteristics, the only reason they were put the label of "sin" on them would be because religious leaders needed a way to further control the will of others. Not that these 7 characteristics are good, but in many cases they lead to happiness or misfortunes, the whole thing is that i don't think they are sin. True?

Agreed. Morality in the old days - and I mean the *really* old days, Ancient Rome and Greece - was based on achieving more for yourself. Making yourself the best person possible. Achieving power. He who makes himself the best man possible is morally sound. Envy makes us want to achieve more, so envy is good. Wrath may help us eliminate enemies, and is therefore good.

But the genesis of modern Christianity was with the Jews in Egypt. They were captives and slaves. They had no way to show power over anyone else. So they had to invent a way to make themselves superior - religion. They invented a religion where it's good to be humble and poor and to be happy with what you have. They demonized the old morality. This carried over into Christianity. Now we say "the meek will inherit the earth." What good is that going to do? We don't want people to be meek, we want them to work hard for what they want.

I say let your instincts rule. When they might get you into trouble, keep them in check, but otherwise go for it.

We are all born in sin and therefore worthy of death. Your toddlers are simply unaware that they are sinning but that should not influence your belief system to the point that you no longer think it is sin. The Law was a tutor leading to Christ. Why did the Israelites need a tutor?? Because they did not realize their sins. It is only by studying the principles in the Bible and the way Jesus lived his life while on earth that we can become aware of the sort of people we should become as we begin to put on the new Christian personality.

This has something to do with morality. One would commit sin if that person has a knowledge or aware of what is right or wrong. Toddlers doesn't even aware about their names or even can't utter it. 7 deadly sins are not really deadly or these are not even considered as sins. it is deadly because it is where all sins came from. its the root of all sins. see this situation: if you got envy with someone, you would like to curse that person for being like that or you would do things just to have things that person has. got it?

So true. Which is why we, as adults, work to forget these inner traits and treat eachother differently.

And what of the 7 Deadly Virtues?

Take courage-now there's a sport
An invitation to the state of rigor mort
And purity-a noble yen
And very restful every now and then
I find humility means to be hurt
It's not the earth the meek inherit, it's the dirt
Honesty is fatal, it should be taboo
Diligence-a fate I would hate
If charity means giving, I give it to you
And fidelity is only for your mate
been cursed

paraphrased ...just for fun......

Your example is very ignorant... of course the toddlers don't know yet. Life is about growing up and realizing what is correct and how to avoid the sins.

The toddlers have little grasp of their sins, but the point of the 7DS is that a morally upright person would recognize these sins in him/herself and turn from them.

True.
I for one am a fan of all of the 7 "deadly" sins. Especially Lust and Gluttony. And when you put two or three of them together... now that is my idea of heaven!

We'll all born with the sin nature. It's just the way it is. Being "good" is a learned behavior.

There is a difference between two toddlers who don't understand right from wrong and adults who do.
