Certain companies allow you to get temporary disability. The government type normally requires that you are considered "terminal" or have only about six months to live. Unfortunately, by the time one goes through all the paperwork, the patient doesn't have time to spend or use it. My friend passed from breast cancer one month after hers kicked in.

Terminal illness automatically qualifies for DLA in some circumstances, but you may be entitled to it, or other benefits such as Incapacity Benefit, Income Support, Housing / Council Tax Benefit etc., depending on your condition.

I believe that ---- if your doctor determines that you cannot work during treatment or recovery or after treatment ---- you should be eligible for either a short-term or long-term disibility --- depending upon the situation. Inquire with your doctor if you feel you cannot work for any period of time ---- also inquire with your employer .

You can claim medical disability for the period that you feel unwell enough to work. (I did).
