Make sure you dry your hair completely before you straighten it as the hair can stretch whilst still wet then it will spring up again within a short time.
Have you tried straightening serums? I like Asdas own, but the product will depend on your hair texture. Go to Boots and buy a few different mini bottles of hair straightening products. Use one at a time for at least a week as it will take time for your hair to adjust.
The straightener themselves may be the problem, try giving them a clean as they may have residue on them that is preventing the full heat and leaving crap on your hair basically.
Good luck.

I presume you have naturally curly hair. I expect it is because the natural curl is fighting back!! Do you use a straightening product that is designed to work with irons? That should help. You could also look into more permanent solutions at the hairdresser by having your hair professionally straightened (like the opposite to a perm!) but that would mean you couldn't wear your hair curly for a while. I would suggest trying out various straightening products first. Also, don't use the irons too often as they will damage your hair and it will look dry and go kinky more easily if it isn't in good condition.

Buy yourself some GHDs. Honestly, they are well worth the money and your hair stays striaght. I used a few different sets of straighteners beore buying my GHDs and they really do give the best results. I wouldn't advise using any straightening products on your hair as they tend to weigh it down or make it greasy.

Use a leave in straightening balm. The best I've found is loreals heat activated one. You need to use some sort of heat protection anyway so you dont scorch your hair.

Which hair straighteners do you use?
Use GHD straighteners. They are the most effective on the market - pricey but worth it.
They leave your hair looking kink-free and professional ALL day!

Get yourself a professional(Redken, Paul Mitchell, etc.) product for frizzy hair, it helps. I too deal with Florida humidity and sometimes nothing works completely, but those products do help. Talk to a salon person when you go to buy.

Try a straightening serum that you put on your hair. It also protects it against heat.
