For those who are saying that mormonism is a cult, it is NOT acult! Catholics hide stuff and manipulate the Holy Bibkle! They take out of the bible and keep in what they want! They only want power! Its been like that sine the early 1800's! A cult is something VWERY bad, i would say that SATANISM is a cult NOT mormonism!

Usually, families are very supportive when they know that a person has put a lot of time and study into joining the Church. I would suggest letting them know how you feel about the Gospel and why you decided to join the Church. I do have a friend who's mom is a very stout Catholic that got baptized. Her mom didn't talk to her for a year. But she started noticing the changes in her daughter's life, and has accepted the fact that her daughter made a difficult choice. It is very important to be straight forward and honest with family.

Trying to answer this question could be hard for an outsider. It will help that your mom will also be joining the church, and you will have that support. Just remember how you feel now (you're obviously excited about your baptism, that is good). Keep those feelings alive, and seek to follow the truth throughout your life. Your family may surprise you by being very supportive. I've seen both, so you may be facing either support or opposition. Good luck no matter what. People will always try to change your mind about things that you feel are right, go with what you know and feel to be true, in matters or religion and otherwise.

This part is a shameless plug for the website :) I'm trying to start a site that have LDS conversion stories on them. If you're interested in sharing your story see: http://Justinodhans.googlepages.com/home
and send the stories to the email address at the bottom, same goes for your mom. Again, good luck and Congrats!

Congratulations!
Be honest and sensitive to their feelings. Do they know that you have been investigating the church? If they don't, you might need to be a little more sensitive in "breaking the news" to them. If they do know that you've been investigating, then it might be a little easier. I wrote a letter to my parents as they were 6 hours away when I was baptised. In my letter I included how I was introduced to the church and why I started searching. I included why I felt it was the right church for me, and included my testimony. I never in a million years would have thought that they would not be supportive of my decision, but they weren't. Be prepared for that as well, but don't let it sway you from being baptised. You have to do what you think is best for your life, even if that means you make choices that some of your family members don't like. Let them know that you want to keep the doors of communicaiton open, and point out similarities between the two faiths, and how this is just the next step for you in drawing closer to your Heavenly Father. Don't get into an argument over this. Contention comes from the devil, and I know in my case it seemed he was working overtime on me from the time I decided to be baptised and I actually was baptised. Remember to pray. Oh, and you might direct your family to the website below. It might help answer some of their questions.
Hope this helps.

Cult - A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false.

Mormonism fits the definition. The Bible curses anyone who tries to add more words to what has been spoken. That is exactly what the Book of Mormon is.

Please carefully scrutinize Mormon doctrines: blood atonement, the Adam-God concept, etc.

Moroni is the false angel of the "accursed" gospel of which Paul speaks in Galatians 1:8,9.

But the most damning evidence is the proof that the book of Mormon was copied from an earlier fictional book written (and published!) by Spaulding prior to the book of Mormon.

I do not want to hurt your feelings but I am very sorry to hear where you are being baptized been there done that did not feel like I would ever get clean again. Truly and very very honestly No lie. Have beeen rebaptized into chritianity very very happy. Just my experience. Before you do this did you know that God has awife in heaven making babay spirits? It is taught by the mormons but of course only you have been thoroughly endoctrined. I found out early and got out. That makes God an adulterer and cheater.

Congrats! I hope you have the best of luck with your family. I would do A LOT of praying and fasting before you tell them. No matter the outcome (good or bad), just remember that you have made the right choice, and that whatever happens will make you a stronger person. If your family reacts negatively, it might just be a way that God is testing and trying to strengthen your faith in his gospel. If not, you could be the example to the rest of your family and let them know the truth of the gospel if they are willing to listen. whatever you do, do it with patience and understanding. Let love speak to thier hearts rather than reasoning to their heads. Good luck and congratulations!

The good news is that you are being baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The mormon church believes that they can revoke a baptism if you leave the Mormon Church however we all know that they do not have the power to revoke a baptism. Your baptism is witnessed by God and cannot be revoked.

I was baptised into the LDS church while in high school. My entire family is still Catholic. If I were to do it again, I would have openly and sincerely shared more of my experiences and testimony with them to help them feel the spirit of what I was doing and why. Invite them to your baptism, help them to feel comfortable, do not criticize their beliefs, and let your light shine. Love them and be patient with them. Finally, fasting and prayer can work miracles to soften their hearts.

Good luck. It was one of the best days of my life.

May God help you. I rejoice anytime some one leaves the catholic cult, but you are actually going in the wrong direction. Mormonism is also a cult.
Well look on the bright side-at least you can still go to hell.

Why say anything, it's not like you had a baby and make an announcement.
