Your dogs could be territorial, or not wanting intruders on their land. If they aren't neutered, this could be just an agression problem.

What breeds are they? They might be bred for that kind of thing. For a german shepard or a malamute it could just be an instinctual thing.

If you can't stop it, try shielding the other dog from view, scolding them, or my favorite technique: Try saying SHAME repeatedly in a long, monotoned voice... it always works if my dog does something wrong, and she will usually wag her tail a bit and stay low to the ground, circling you as if to beg for forgiveness.

Either way, good luck!

Do you mean ballistic, like, aggresive, or ballistic like "we want to be friends, best friends, and we will never leave"? A lot of the tips above are good if your dog is being aggressive. If you dog is just overly excited to see them, in a good way, work on your dog being around other dogs and listening to you. Train for this distraction just as you would for any other distraction. Work your way up to it slowly. It's really kind've hard to describe how to do it, but basically go back to how you would have originally trained your dog, start over, only this time with another new dog around instead of without distractions.

You might want to think about getting them castrated/spayed.

They could just be very horny dogs. Or try buying a loud whistle. Then put the dog in a situation where it can run towards another dog, as soon as it moves, blow the whistle, this will teach the dog that what it is doing is going to result in it getting a fright so therefore it wont do it.

If they are wagging there tales it is excited and not agreesive behaviour, if this is the case tug the lead sharply and turn around and move off in the opposite direction for about 30 yards, turn back toward the other dog and repeat if it happens again, your dog should quickly settle down.

Happy walkies

sometines its being restrained if they are on a lead, take them closer to meet, but be very calm and firm. If not on lead and a dog walks past your house, they are guarding their teritory, be firm again, go to your dog tell it no, and make it sit, every time it does it. no screaming or running around by you, be cool and firm. good luck.

I think you should bring your dog for a walk more often. It must be really excited at seeing new friends.
