No. It's the only safe way to avoid getting pregnant, or having STDs. And if two people marry who are virgins, well, they don't have to worry about diseases do they?

No, it is held by others. Actually not even all religious people hold it, and lately it seems few do. Now the big thing they are using to try to convince people is the STDs and Pregnancy. That is reilgious households as well as schools before someone says about well seperation of Church and State.
Oh and to offkey read a Bible, or proably even the Torah. According to the Ten Commandments FORNICATION is a sin. It was mistranslated to Adultry, but they have come to realize that properly translated it is fornication. Meaning sex with ANYONE other then your spouse is a sin. Even my Holy Bible states that and it was from like 1980 or so in the copywrite. It still has the Commandment of Thou Shalt not commit Adultry, but in the back has a glossary of terms and defines Adultry as sex with anyone other then your spouse. So you may think it isn't a sin but IT IS. You may think it is free, but come Judgement Day God will let you know it isn't free as it will be on your list of sins.

I don't really see the point in not having sex before marriage. So I would say that it is for religious reasons. Those who are afraid of diseases should wear condoms - even those who aren't that scared, anyway. And having sex before marriage doesn't mean that you're sleeping around.
I really don't see the point in waiting. Why would you save it? Sex is not a sin... Ok, I'm going to stop because it's useless.
And "F*ck you" to the girl who said that only people who have been raised in the right way don't have sex before marriage. You see, I'm proving your point: I'm badly educated. I said "F*** you"!!! Ah ah ah!
I know of a guy who died in a car accident at 24. He was a virgin because he wanted to wait to get married with his beloved girlfriend. Well, I'm sure you know what I think about that: what a waste!
Sex is one of the few free pleasure in life. It is something that brings you closer to your boyfriend. That's what people call "to make love". Oh! I was supposed to stop! Never mind; I got carried away once again!

Well there are poeple who still keep to that, and I believe that it does have religious grounds, I see no other reason.
Also, there is no reason to diss someone's choices in life just because you don't understand them or because they are different. Personally, I don't follow that particular "feature" of religious life, but I can understand where it comes from, it could save a lot of people from diseases, unwanted pregnancies and sentimental dissappointemt (esp. for those who see physical implication as synonyme to emotional one). In other words, having sex after you're married in one way to make sure the SOB doesn't dump you after he's ****ed you!

most of the people in this country who feel that way are probably religious in a traditional kind of way. but there are non-religious people who also feel this way (many fewer). because of the diseases and consequences like pregnancy. god isn't the only reason to avoid premarital sex.

Most of them are religious because that is being preached to them. Chastity is a virtue. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong also if they are afraid to contract a disease-who wouldn't be?

It can be held by anyone, some religions practice it but you don't have to be religious to make it your ethical choice.

I would say yes, only because virginity itself is something tought by religion. Im not saying its a bad thing to want to wait. I do think its driven by religion though.

i don't believe it's strictly a religious issue. people have many and varied reasons for remaining virgins - some good and some silly in my opinion. to each his own.
