Most countries in Europe are either officially Christian (Catholic,Orthodox or Protestant) or secular ie no state religion.
However in practice most have no relgion. In England there are Christians, Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists, various pagans and others. Mostly they all act as grown ups and very rarely feel the need to kill each other in the name of "god".
Freedom of religion has been legal for probably 300 years.

Europe is not a "country", Pippa, dear. Are you going to one of those "private" schools?
In general, most people in the countries of Europe are nowhere near are religiously zealous as Americans. Religion tends not to be a part of "public" life, the two exceptions being in Italy, where the majority are Catholic, and their Pope even has his own country right in the middle of their country(!), and Ireland, which is also replete with Catholics.
According to Wikipedia, "Europe has the largest number and proportion of irreligious, agnostic and atheistic people in the Western world", which might be why it's so much more difficult to get shot, robbed, raped or swindled there!

The vast majority of Euros are dropping Christianity like a hot potato. Americans are the last civilized country to hang on to the ancient theism.

I'm not European but there are a lot of Muslims. Remember the riots in Paris by the Muslims not so long ago?
