I got my hair done professionally, but I did my own makeup. The only thing I did for my face was go to Merle Norman and have them find me the foundation that most closely matched my skin because I am very fair skinned and did not want my makeup showing up orange in the pictures. It turned out wonderful!! I love that I looked like "me" on the big day. I didn't want someone else doing my makeup and having me look slutty or anything like that. I just wanted to look naturally beautiful and simple. It was great!!

Getting the hair done was definitely worth it, especially since the bridesmaids and myself have long-ish hair. If you only want something simple though (ie if you just want to leave your hair out but have it straightened) it may be worth just having someone like your bridesmaids helping you do that.

I wasn't as impressed with the make up. It looked great when it was first done and in the photos we had done at the house but it was a fairly warm day and the make up didn't last for too long, even with touch ups. Don't know whether this just means that our make up artist was crap as I've heard that a good make up artist should be able to make the make up last through the ceremony and the reception.

We also had facials, manicures and pedicures but this was more of a girly bonding thing than anything else. A wedding is a good time to treat yourself things like that :)

In the end I guess it just depends on how much you can afford. As with everything, shop around and you'll probably find something that fits your budget.

I did my own. I knew what look I wanted, and I was very comfortable doing my own makeup.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having your makeup professionally done. If it's something you want to do, it is probably worth it. I would make a suggestion, though. Do a trial run. Make an appointment for the professional to do your makeup about a week before the wedding. This way you can make sure that you are communicating effectively with one another. If what you picture is "natural beauty," but what you see is more "drag queen," you have the time to talk things over and make corrections. You don't want to have that kind of drama on your wedding day.

At my first wedding I was quite young and had short hair so went down the road to the local salon and had my hair blow dried, my sister did my make up but it was very hot weather andit melted and I looked shiny in every picture!

This time round many years later I will have my hair done at a salon (it is shoulder length now) with a trial first and have a professional make up artist come to my house after a trial too.

I think it depends on what you can afford and how much "work: you need to look beautiful for the pictures

Good Luck!

No as they didn't do it as much when I got married and those that did charged the earth, I would ring a few people up who do this package for brides and see if they will give you a free mini make over before you decide if its what you want, if they say no then guess they aren't as good as they say they are, but for your special day I would say it is very worth it and wish I could have afforded it myself, have a lovely day and hope you find the right person to make you look even more beautiful.

Yes and it was worth every penny. I was married at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Vegas and the beautician had to come in specially as I was married on a Sunday. She did my hair, make up, nails - te lot and even now when I look at the photo's I know I have never looked so good (and SOB SOB probably never will again!!!!)
Go for it - with love you will only get married once so make it the ultimate day to remember.

Hair yes, make-up no. I think getting your hair done professionally is extremely important since it can be very complicated and difficult to do yourself and it's very important that your hairstyle stay in place for a long time. If you're used to doing your own make-up and feel confident about it, do it yourself and you'll look fine. If you're the type of person that doesn't wear make-up very often, try using a professional.

I did not have my hair or makeup professionally done, but then I had shorter hair style that only required brushing. As for makeup, I use a very light amount of makeup and was able to fix my make up like I like it. Some women do have their hair and make up professionally done, especially if they aren't very good at fixing their own hair. They can also have some very nice styles fixed to suit their head pieces. Also, if you don't like how you look daily in your makeup you can have your makeup professionally done so that you look your absolute best.

I went to one of those makeup counters and had them do my makeup before the wedding to see if I liked it. Well, even though I told them my wedding was during the day and it was casual, I came out looking like a h**ker. My fiance (who is always honest with me) told me he hated it and that I did in fact look like a h**ker. So, I decided to do it myself on my wedding day. I did my own hair, too, but just because it was a casual ceremony and I didn't want an uptight updo. Just make sure you have practice runs with your hair and makeup before the big day. And if you're having a more formal wedding, you should definitely pay to have your hair done. I've seen brides do that and they come out beautiful. Just be careful with who you have do your makeup. Good luck!
