Instead of staying in hotels, stay in a hostel. They are clean, and you will meet new people. Here's the link for hosteling in the US. Join, get your card, and you can use it to travel all over the world. http://www.hihostels.com/
I just got back from a 9 week trip to Australia and New Zealand. I stayed in hostels the whole time...they were great. One was on the beach, another had a hot tub on the roof, several had pools, many have restaurants if y ou didn't want to use their kitchem, which is another great way to save money...all had a travel office offices for cheap trip planning, and activities every day/night. There're laundry facilities, a game room, videos, book exchanges...you name it.All offer a choice of dorms, doubles, and some even have single rooms...the most I paid the whole time came out to about $55 a night for a single room...the least was $12.

If you are interested in international travel, here's another way to make it cheap.I charge everything I buy, so my trip was paid for by frequent flier miles (they charged me $95 for taxes and transfers). When you travel this way, it won't be the most direct way, but you'll see places you never would otherwise...I got to stay overnight in Guam, which was really interesting.
Use the link http://www.hihostels.com/ and...click on the world map and select the county or area you're interested in and you can see what hostels there are. And there are other hostels besides this...if you ever go to Australia stay in Xbase hostels....they are really amazing. Try this...you'll like it!
Good luck.

Go as a group with a bunch of your friends and share the costs. Or get real friendly with someone who owns a van and convince them to go on a trip and you two can sleep in the van. If you get enough friends together to go on the trip you could also rent a small travel trailer and park at night to sleep and you would be able to cook and store your food in the trailer so you wouldnt have the expense of eating out. You could probably buy a cheap travel trailer for a few hundred dollars and between you and a bunch of friends going in on it would hardly cost you anything and all of you would have it for future trips and if you guys are real smart you could even rent it out to other students or people you know and make your money back. Another idea is become a travel agent this way you can travel for almost free. Look into group tours since they always get group rates it is cheaper. But I still think the trailer would be the best bet.

When I was a student, whenever I wanted to visit a place or country, I'd look up a book about it at the library or the internet. I read on the history, places of interest, famous people, etc. Although you may not physically travel due to budget constraints, with books and the power of internet at your hands, what better and cheaper way to travel the world? Actually, it's free!

And when you get to graduate and work, save up for your travels. I did that, and now I am realizing my passion, i.e. to travel to those places I dreamt and read about in books before.

Good luck!

The 'invention' of the computer and all it's surrounding technology has been a God-send in many areas of our life and standards of living. What you should do is contact a travel agency and let them know WHAT YOU HAVE TO SPEND. Ask THEM to research and locate places you can stay, restaurants you can afford to eat at, etc. I have traveled and used agencies that have found great Bed and Breakfasts places all over the world! That is definitely a cost reduction. In addition, there is a whole bank of information available to students who travel - the purchase of rail passes which can carry you many places especially cheap. Also, the agencies can tell you the best time to travel - especially if you are going overseas. There are also avenues that are "free". I recall once driving from Detroit to New Jersey - while we were in college. We located an agency who needed "drivers" to get a vehicle purchased in Detroit to New Jersey to the owner. They paid for our gas AND lodging, and when we got to New Jersey - the vehicle owner provided us train passes to our location in New Jersey and gave us money for meals. It was an unusual deal - but we got to Morristown, NJ for the Thanksgiving vacation and didn't pay a dime. You have to investigate and research - but there are many, many avenues available to you. Good luck

you could camp or travel in groups where you can rent condos or cabins (where you can bring your own food and cook and of course split the rental cost.) you could also buy a cheap used camper (pop up or such) if tent camping is too rough for you. just a couple of thoughts. oh yeah - no matter what, if driving somewhere, bring a cooler w snacks and drinks to avoid all those little incendiary expenses!

generally when people decide to travel they take unnecessary things with them. and make different plan in there mind which directly affect their money pocket.
i give you small idea about minimum expenses maximum travel see pickup your bag only with necessary things like toothbrush, pen, notebook, map, and Daley clothes. hotel industry provide you maximum facility like home and try to avoid any vehicle in a particular city.
in short try to live like GYPSY

Check the www for the apartments rental. Euro trains for students are affordable. Hostels can OK, but sometimes it is just not nice to be in hostels.
